Crash during opening cart sequence

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 3:35 am

Hi guys,

I bought Skyrim during the sale, but I can't seem to get past the opening sequence. About ten-15 seconds into the cart, when some guy begins muttering about stormhawks, he gets cut off and the game crashes to desktop without any error message.

My specs are:

Windows Vista Home Premium
Asus P5Q Pro motherboard
Intel Core Quad Q9300 @ 2.5 GHz
3326MB RAM
Nvidia Gforce GTX 560 Ti, 2400MB

I've already tried turning off anti aliasing, turning on fxaa, and setting the sound settings to 24bit, 44.1k

Does anyone know a fix for this?

I have the exact same problem. If you are using the HD DLC and have a 32-bit system you can only run for about a minute before a CtD. No fix for this yet, other than turning off the DLC files or upgrading your system to 64-bit.

Same problem, recently built an expensive gaming rig, Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 TI, 4096 RAM and i5 2500-k processor. So I'm fairly certain it's not my specs.

I'll de-activate the high texture dlc and see if that fixes it.

-Edit- Unchecking the high texture pack in the data files worked, I can play it fine and i'll wait for some sort of fix to this problem

I think that the HD texture pack is overloading your VRAM.

EDIT: applies to all with this issue; switch off the HD texture pack for the intro.

Does it only overload your VRAM if you are using a 32-bit system? Would just using a 64-bit system fix the VRAM problem.

How would someone increase VRAM anyway, other than just buying a new card?

Thanks.

Well I have a friend who has the same card as I do, which i've posted above, but he has no problems. I should note aswell that after I got through the starter area playing with the normal texture pack, I tried the HD texture pack and it all ran perfectly fine. But then it seems to close whenever I have to load a new area or a scripted event happens.

Thanks, I guess I'll just run it without the HD textures, pity but this way I at least get to play.

Once you've saved past the intro, you can try enabling the high-res texture pack again.
