Fortify Pickpocket objects

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 6:51 pm

So I was attempting to pickpocket a large sum of money off of someone (about 1600 septim) and it said I have a 32% chance of success. So to up my chances, I equipped an enchanted ring granting 15% Better pickpocket success, and a pair of enchanted boots also granting 15% Better pickpocket success. Now when I went to try again it said I have only a 20% chance of success???

What gives? How did me adding 30% worth of improved pickpocketing result in 12% less success?

Any Ideas, or others who have noticed the same thing. I'm level 100 in pickpocket btw.

maybe the npc saw you getting all dressed up in your best pick-pocketing gear and got a bit wary. LOL

There's a bug with pickpocketing indeed.

From the wiki~
A character might face a bug with pickpocketing when using the last light fingers perk. Instead of rising the stealing chances this perk can instead drop them to zero when trying to steal large amounts of gold( around 1600-1700). For example if you use a trainer to train archery from 57 to 58, you can use pickpocket to get your money back and when you have only 4 light fingers perks the odds are about 62% and if you take the last one they suddenly drop to zero!

The same applies to apparel that fortifies pickpocketing - if a character already has the 4th light fingers perk, bonuses from apparel although do not drop the chances to zero, but decrease them anyway, instead of increasing.

Wow, how is your chance so high? Mine would always go down to 0% over 1500 if I was undetected, but then it would go up to 6% if I was detected. Wearing gear with +Pickpocket % does make your chances go down. It's the same with Sneak. I think it only makes the chance go down if your skill in it is already the highest. It's like, instead of the gear helping you, it's so good that it's bad... or something.

Anyway, just save and reload and go with that 30% chance. It's not so bad :P.

He was probably thinking, "Why is this guy smelling my butt? Better hold onto my gold a little tighter."

I think I only have the first Light Fingers perk. I know I don't have all of them. I will have to check tonight to see how many I have. Hopefully this is on the long list of things Bethesda will fix with a patch

Anyway, just save and reload and go with that 30% chance. It's not so bad :P.

That is what I did. I ended up stealing it anyway. Just frustrating to know that it could have been happening the whole time and I could have gotten stuff easier. lol
