Weird shadowlighting problem on textures

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 1:46 am

So I just noticed an odd flickering problem. Take a look at the screenshots below to see what I'm talking about. Anyone know what's causing this? I've tried the usual stuff like uninstalling lighting-related mods, texture packs, different drivers, driver options, etc, and I can't seem to figure it out. Any help is appreciated :)

There is a known problem with flickering, pixellated/jagged shadows like on NPC faces around a campfire, but I'm not sure if it is the same problem you are having. I've been fiddling around with my SkyrimPrefs.ini file for the past couple of days with limited success but nothing has quite solved it completely.

I found this mod here http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8043#content but I can't really vouch for it, because there is a bare description, nothing in the 7z except for an esp (mod) file, but no description on what it does specifically or how it fixes the problem.

Kinda vauge. I guess the days of decent Readme.txt files from Oblivion and Morrowind mods have not continued for too many Skyrim mods so far...

Yes I'm already using that mod, and the issue persists both with and without it installed. I also don't have any driver-based antialiasing enabled since that seems to cause similar problems, especially with ATI cards (I have a GTX 560ti). Anyone else have ideas about this?

Bump. Well too bad that mod didn't help you. Now that I think of it, it seems like I've seen someone mention something similar to this, but with the CK lighting... if I can just remember where I saw it.

EDIT - I think it was this thread. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1345955-lighting-going-buggy/page__p__20304763__hl__shadow__fromsearch__1#entry20304763

Seems to be similar to your problem if not the same. Perhaps caused by lighting from multiple sources? The bad news is I don't know of a fix for it yet. Maybe someone has an idea or if we are lucky, there will be a fix in a future patch.

I had this same problem with my AMD drivers when it was updated to 12.1, and I got this fixed by downgrading to 11.12, then updating back 12.1 manually from the exe, not through AMDs Catalyst and also decided to remove " Realistic Lighting With Customization" Mod and this solved the issue as the mod made certain fog and clouds flicker through extensive testing on my own. Hope this helps your problem if your running on AMD drivers/gpu also.
