Performance post official HD pack

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 8:24 am

Hello,

I run several mods, mostly graphics enhancements (Skyrim HD 2k, serious HD landscape re-texture, Realistic Water, Skyrim Flora overhaul, lush grass, lush trees... and prior to the official HD pack i had no problems whatsoever, my fps averaged around 50, no stuttering, no fps drops in any area..

Now after i downloaded the official HD pack, and re-installed my mods, the game looks great but i noticed i get stuttering when i look around and although my fps still is stable, in Forest areas and in areas infested with trees, my fps drops to 25-30 and the game stutters...

Any solution to the above?

thx

Edit: I heard Alexander is working on a 1.4 compatible Skyboost... i hope that helps.. any mods around or tweaking to help meanwhile will be greatly appreciated.

I forgot to post my specs:

Nvidia 580
CPU: I7 980
12 GB RAM
Windows 7 64 bit

You may be using all of your VRAM, causing textures to be swapped in and out of your graphics card's memory.

Yep, monitor your GPU usage with GPU-Z running in the background while you play (tick the box to get it to do this). Exit the game, see what the "max" is for each monitored item.

Are you running Skyrim HD "full" or "lite"? If "full", then you might want to try "lite" if you're combining with the new DLC packs. At 1080 res, you won't notice any difference.

The HD pack totally kills my fps too.

Normally I'm 30-40 fps in all outdoor areas, and although I have a lot of texture mods installed, I generally go with the 1024x1024 versions when available. I don't have Skyrim HD installed, or any other "comprehensive" texture pack.

With the HD pack, my frame rate plummets to 20-30 fps in the outdoors.

I have a GTX 470 with 1280 MB, so one would think I should be ok.

It's a VRAM issue, The stuttering you get is due to the game loading textures into system ram or the swap file after you run out of VRAM.

There are two answers, Either upgrade your GPU to one that has at least 2.Gb of VRAM or use this wonderful optimized official HD pack from V4N0, I can testify to it's genius.

it solved all my issues related to my GPU's 1Gb limit & i highly recommend it.

I run both Skyrim HD (lite) and the new DLC packs, with a GTX 460 1Gb and my FPS is fine outdoors. I've turned my AA down to 2x and shadows to Medium if that helps.

Guys,

I disabled the "Lush Trees" add on, this alone gave me fps boost (8-10), so now i am content :) thx for the replies everyone.

Is it likely that I’m experiencing the same thing with my rig? I’m running pretty smooth ½ of the time, but any time I get around multiple NPC’s I get major stutter and lag when I turn around. It drops from 50 to 60 to the teens sometimes and runs like a slide show for a few seconds, then clears up. But it’s funny, it’s usually only around NPC’s. I can uncheck the plugins in NMM and it’s fine and smooth as butter.

i7 Sandy Bridge
2x GTX 470 sli
16 gig memory
240 gig SSD

Thanks for the links to that optimized pack, I’ll give it a go.

Yeah, VRAM.

Texture mods are rather unscrupulous about which textures it makes huge and which it doesn't. Sometimes you just don't need a 2k texture lol.

You can also save some VRAM by lowering the AA value.

Try turning AA down to 4x. Fixed my issues with my 570.
