HD4870 - What Drivers Are You Using?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 10:45 pm

Just installed Skyrim. The intro/video ran fine. Got outside and am now experiencing severe tearing. Tried altering the video options but no go... still tearing.

I'm running older drivers on my ATI Radeon HD4870 512MB (which worked great for Oblivion) and am wondering if updating the drivers might help but I know how tempermental drivers can be so want to know what is working for you folks.

So, to anyone running the same GPU, please let me know what drivers are working for you with this game.

Thanks.

Is VSync disabled? Screen tearing can happen when vsync is disabled.

I don't see an option for Vsync in the setup. So if it's enabled by default, then I haven't changed it.

It's in the INI. Something like presentinterval or presetinterval or something like that...

I found it and it is enabled by default. So VSync isn't the problem.

I run a 4870x2 (2 x 1024MB) using the 12.2 preview drivers with very good results. The drivers that were current when the game came out in November didn't work well in Skyrim, especially with crossfire. ATI issued a number of patches and finally got an acceptable version at 11.11c. Avoid the 11.12 drivers as they do not have the 11.11c improvements. I've seen people report that the current production (12.1) drivers work fine as well.

Okay, I dl'd the 12.1. I'll try those and see if they help my tearing issue.

Thanks

Update - the 12.1 drivers fixed the tearing problem. In doing so, however, that in turn messed up my audio drivers so I had to reinstall them as well.

Now I have a new problem, but I'll start a new thread for it.

Thanks for the help.
