I would like to save patch files to a CD incase I want to remove and replay the game few years down the road, be nice to have
patch files saved (and any mods I use) along with the game CD.

Where can I get my hands on the PATCH files ?

Just back up the game files. Usually only the EXE is updated with patches, but not always.
