High Resolution Pack, some textures missing

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 9:14 am

I am using the highres pack off of Steam and some textures are screwed up, specifically woodcutting stations and certain fireplace logs. I had this problem to a more severe extent before where a lot of things had the 'purple plastic' look, but after a game cache integrity check and a redownload of the second file in the pack, it was MOSTLY resolved.

Here is a picture of the thing missing the texture:

I don't have the faintest clue of which cache file to delete so it can redownload, so could someone who KNOWS they have a GOOD copy please run http://www.nullriver.com/products/winmd5sum on each archive and post the results so I can compare with the md5sums for my files? I'm only interested in the md5sum of the BSA files.

The md5sum for the files that I have are:

HighResTexturePack01.bsa: d99ca52d7fa3b86fcade313e622c3f02
HighResTexturePack02.bsa: 2b89e804fd5e9d023a17f84835b1869a

If either of these are different for you from what I have, that means whichever file had the different hash is wrong on my end.

Yep messed up, more than you think - Have a read http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1343691-info-detailed-anolysis-of-highres-pack-click-to-learn/

And you cant un-install it fully without occasionally having it re-download in the future http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1344330-how-do-i-uninstall-the-skyrim-texture-pack-dlc/

And it messes up texture replacers mods http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1345724-important-bsas-and-you/

In short - Bethesda's surprise turned out to be a bomb shell

The only way apparently at the moment is to go to steam support and submit a support ticket to have the DLC removed from your account.

I am awaiting a response.

Your problem has been fixed: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8236

I've been using the very first version of this fix; I don't know if it's still available. It works fine and is sufficient for me.

Installing the high resolution packs was a choice you made wilfully, Steam didn't force you to install them, so, you can remove them without any problem. In the launcher, go to Data files, select the two esp and click on "delete selected files". Steam shouldn't reinstall them automatically.

Downloading the files again will not resolve the issue - the problem is that some files within the esps are wrong (the chopping block and firewood logs use the alpha channel for RGB) and some files are missing because the HRTP was packaged incorrectly. You can read a detailed anolysis of the issues with the HRTP http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1343691-info-detailed-anolysis-of-highres-pack-click-to-learn/page__st__180.

Commentary aside, there is a third-party mod that fixes the known issues. You can get that mod http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8236. You can also de-select the two esp files in the launcher (or whatever mod manager you use) to use the game's default textures.
