So.. playing on Master?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 8:25 am

There are a lot of choices i regret making in the game RP wise, and now i know how the game works and how to avoid the glitches and stuff id like to start again and remake my character, and get up to the point i am on my current character before DLC comes out... but the thing is, it was always my intention to play on Master, but i never got around to it.. so i want to know, what is it like playing on Master from start to finish (a metaphorical finish) is it stupidly hard.. do you die all the time, or do you get used to it the more you play?

A mix of both. Sometimes you'll rage at the Bandit Chief that one shotted you, but other times you'll feel a real sense of accomplishment when dealing with Dragons and whatnot. Perseverance is the key here; if you don't get it right the first time, keep trying and modify your strategy until you get it right. Sometimes you'll have to eat your ego and ask for a Mercenary's help.
Oh... and I'd stay away from the Smithing/Alchemy/Enchanting synergy if I were you. They make you a tad too powerful, even on Master (hence losing the whole purpose of playing on that difficulty)

Master = stupidly easy (confronting anything but mages. mages are insanely difficult on master). And I say this as a light armor wearing, non-blocking assassin build. And stay away from the Ebony Blade. It's an instawin god-mode item.

Why do people ask here instead of just playing the damn thing on Master.

Dude, changing the difficulty setting is FOR FREE. You DON'T PAY ROYALTIES or anything.

Prepare to be one shot a lot if you aren't going to be heavily armored.

Personally, I yearn for the day when high difficulty doesn't mean being one shot and enemies having 1000s of hitpoints.

I think master is fun, challenging and also rewarding. Just get used to dying, leaving certain enemies alone and don't forget to use your shouts!

Played on Expert until level 21, then on Master until my current level (43). And that with no more than unenchanted Leather armor. Needless to say I'll never play again on anything less than Master..

Especially if it's not your 1st playthough, Master is just the way to go. If it's your first, a combo of Expert and Master is quite challenging, but not frustrating.

Master only changes damage and health.
It plays like Adept only that everything is a bit increased.
The problem is on Adept there are those sudden "jumps" in difficulty, while the normal enemys arent really much more then speed bumps,
sometimes enemys that are 4 or 5 times as strong pop up.
No problem on Adept, but on Master those get even harder and can sometimes kill you in 2 or 3 hits.
While that may be something one can handle when they are Melee dudes, it gets pretty nasty when they are Mages.

I'm playing on master as a Nord marksmen/onehanded/shield/sneak/lightarmor and the game in general was too easy (i never crafted/enchanted 1 item) I'm 31 right now. I just downloaded a nice mod to amp the AI while increasing spawns and the game has gotten 200% more enjoyable.

I'm not invincible or anything, I have to put forth effort, just not much really. I wouldn't have any fun playing on a lighter difficulty.

I used to play on master like you, until I got the 1.2 bug to the knee.

No, seriously. It's like playing naked. The only fix is to use SKSE or wait for the new 1.3 patch the next week. I suspect even 1.1 had armor resistance bugs.

I found Master difficulty to be... inconsistent.

Level 1 to around level 15 was pretty good.
Level 15 to around 35 had some really rough patches (may have been my build and/or the skills I leveled in that span)
Level 35+ it keeps getting easier.

Note: I don't craft fortify alchemy/smithing/enchanting anything, I do buy/find them and use them though. I also don't buy any crafting mats and only level smithing with the best I can make at the time (no iron dagger spam) and enchanting on a 20 level per soul stone type system (1-20 petty, 20-40 lesser, etc...). At level 59 I still only have 96 alchemy, 93 Smithing (lack of ebony to mine/find so far), and 74 enchanting (not enough greaters and grands yet, haven't done college quests). This is all to just make crafting skills still useful but hamper the growth of them and their overall efficiency until higher levels. I have found it works beautifully so far. I am actually really happy to find Daedric gear in dungeons because it saves me ebony and a Daedra Heart (which are precious when you don't buy them).

Same here. But the resistances bug is a show stopper.
