Immediate Skyrim Crash

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 8:00 pm

Hi all,

I recently built a new computer

i5 2500K @4.6
P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Mobo
8GB DDR3
XFX 5870 (Re-used from old AMD build)
10k RPM HDD (Re-used from old AMD build)
850W PSU

So here's the deal.

I download Skyrim, fresh install, install NMM, install a bunch of mods that I used on my old system, installed SKSE.

When I try to launch Skyrim normally through Steam or through SKSE launcher now, the window pops up for a half second then disappears. Crashes.

Originally, it had said I was missing a d3dx9xx.dll or somesuch, ran a dll repair program, didn't fix the problem. Verifying game cache files in Steam now.

Running most recent ATI drivers and all that good stuff.

It appears to be problem with your DirectX version.
Go here C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim (<--- example)
Install DirectX from "DirectX10" folder

If games still won't run try to go to the same destination and install other stuff:
.NET FrameWork from "DotNetFX" folder
Microsoft Visual from "VCRedist" folder

Plus, it's a good idea to install not .NET Framework 3.5 version, but 4.0 version. You can find it in microsoft website or in other websites like filehippo.com
4.0 version includes all stuff from 3.5 and have other features etc.

Tried installing DirectX, didn't fix it.

dotNetFX wouldn't run. Downloading 4.0 as we speak.

VC redist didn't help either, but ran.

Ran a Dxdiag as well, it's reading my 5870 1GB as having 741 MB available.

Try removing all mods and see what happens. One cannot test stability with 3rd party stuff.

The game worked fine for me on XP.... then I installed win 7 (oafter cleaning up my whole system) 3 months ago .... the game hasnt worked since.

What is happening to you sounds much like what happened to me. Bethesda has done NOTHING to solve my problem, even with several e-mails to their socalled support. Of which, now 3 months later,... I still am waiting for a reply (YEAH 3 FRECKING MONTHS!)

Ive tried almost 50 different sollutions and things,... browsed this whole forum hunderds of times by now. Nothing helped.

I know it is Bethesda's fault,... simply because ALL other games through Steam work,... only ALL Bethesda games I have refuse to work. So it is DEFINATELY a Bethesda caused problem, eventhough the problem only occured after installing win 7.

I'll keep monitoring your topic,... if you find a working sollution,.... I'll be interrested in it.

P.S.
I dont run mods though.

Yeah, I've tried it w/ and w/o mods. No difference.

I'm going to do a fresh install and see if that helps.
