Ati drivers 12.2 Preview boosting perfomance

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 11:50 am

hi guys...

I did catch up on the enb website, that folks were having good resulst with the ati preview 12.2 drivers in combination with ENB and antialiasing being activated.. so I decided to tried it out...

I am using realistic Lighting 2.3 + Enhanced Shaders on a 965 Phenon II 3,6 ghz. Ati 6950. Everything Ultra. x2 antialiasing, 8x anisotropic... and FXAA on. Shadow medium

On the highest point on whiterun, worst angle I was getting around 30 fps. Now I am getting at least 34.

So, If you want to try them out

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst122Previewdriver.aspx

This are, preview drivers, so use at your own risk obvisouly

tell us your perfomance changes on that one ! =)

It may happen that it only boost skyrim if you were already using enb.. non enb players may or may not see a boost on perfomance.

i honestly don't see any reason why i would update to 12.2, at least not with my configuration

I know very well what my two Radeon 6870s are capable of (mostly they're being limited by dat VRAM, which is a real pity).

Such as, they're capable of rendering this game in Ultra Quality + Nebula's HD Texture Mod (Lite pack, due to VRAM issues) + ini tweaks + 4xSSAA/8xAF perfectly fine (i.e. constantly above 40 fps).

there's no way that there's headroom for more driver optimization. but maybe i am wrong, i will find out when 12.2 will be released.

/EDIT: that spot in Whiterun is horribly CPU limited. you should get better performance with your CPU though. I get around 40-45 FPS

What is "ENB"?

http://enbdev.com/index_en.html

It′s used to enhance/change the visuals of the game. Its very customizable. It hits the game perfomance aswell a bit (around 5 fps normally)
Its largely use around themod community to change the atmosphere of the game in different ways.

My computer just updated to 12.1 today - just tried skyrim and am getting flickering and black boxes / lines that other people have reported (wasn't getting this with 11.12). So maybe I'll try the 12.2 preview instead of rolling back.

It looks like I can't use the 12.2 preview - doesn't support 5700 series. Looks like maybe there's a hotfix for the 5700 series though, so I'll see if this makes a difference.

Actually its the 7900 series that isn't supported - bit hot and flustered and the moment, not reading properly.

Using 12.2 preview, the bad flickering and black boxes / lines have gone - maybe got a bad install for 12.1. Markath seems more fluid too.

Try a reinstall I am using 12.1 with no issues however the first install which happened to be the preview installed bad. Worth a shot before you do 12.2 preview since there is nothing noted regarding Skyim and a 4 fps jump sorry OP could be a number of things.

Have been running it without any problems and improved performance.

NOTE: 12.2 has a Pre-defined Profile for TESV.exe Skyrim.

OS: Windows 7 Pro SP1 64 bit
Intel Core i7 975 @ 3.33GHz, 3334 MHz 4 Core
12 GB Ram
ATI HD 5970 2 GB DDR5

Zocks

In CCC / Gaming / 3D Application Settings
at bottom under AMD CrossFireX Mode for 3D Applications.
Drop down box, under User AMD Pre-defined Profile.

looks like it is only for Crossfire card setup.

Pretty sure they added that in 12.1 preview.

Thanks Zocks! It seems previews work much better than the officially released drivers :)

Currently using 12.3 preview drivers. Haven't seen a huge performance boost, but I didnt use 12.2 at all. In 12.2 is there a command line box that comes up when you boot saying "Installing AML Device"? Or is that new in 12.3?

Or that's odd, on AMD's site it's labeled 12.2 pre-certified driver, but in CCC its labeled 12.3.
