Is it safe to start with the thieves guild?

Just wondering if it was safe to go straight to riften instead of Bleak Falls Barrows at the start of the game.

yeah you can do whatever you want, but be warned that most of the weapons and the best armor you get from this questline are leveled, if you finish it too early you'll end up with some pretty bad items that wont be of any use to you after several levels ;)

Ah, I see. Thanks much for the info! Do the quest items compare with crafted? I'm really mostly just looking for an early fence with a lot of gold to fund my crafting later! And a safe room to store ingedients!

if you get them at low level, no, later on they become pretty good, and thieves guild fences dont have more gold than normal traders :\ so if thats your only reasoning its not worth it over the weapons and armor that you can get from there if you wait :) you can just join them btw so you get a place to sell stolen stuff but dont finish the quest line, also if you do 5 side jobs in every big city(the ones that have walls xD) you can get 1 trader for every city to come to the thieves guild headquarters. after uve done 5 side jobs for each city ull get a special task. after you join the guild they will tell you from who you can get these jobs :)

np, also i forgot to tell you that you cant pick for which city your tasks are so its a good idea to quick save before taking a task so if uve already done 5 for this city u wont have to do more xD

Caution; certain unique quest rewards from the Thieves Guild questline are non-upgradable if you get them too late. Specifically, there is a Quest called Hard Answers that you should attempt to complete between level 36 and 45... especially if you are a Smith.

I wouldn't get hung up on the stuff you get as a low level character. There's an enitre game's worth of stuff to be had.

TG is good for a low level character because you get your sneak skills warmed up and get into isolated skirmishes (as opposed ot dungeons and ruins). And I almost forgot the nearly unlimited amounts of gold to be had.....
