Frustrating Markarth Guard Bug

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 7:37 am

So I'd say I'm about 72+ hours in now, around an 11-12mb save file, so far the game has run ok, I've run into some major crashes, and framerate drops, dragons who don't want to fight me, not absorbing some of their souls, Repairing the Phial apparently doesn't realize I have a Briarheart in my inventory because I already had one from a previous dungeon crawl.

Perhaps small SPOILERS*****?

Anyways, but now I'm really frustrated because I can't go back into Markarth without killing every guard in the city. I had already done the Forsworn quest and escaped, and during a Dark Brotherhood quest, I decided to put on a potion of invis, sneak up and kill my target in broad daylight, even though no one saw me do it, the guards immediately sprang into action. As I ran I got stopped outside the city gates by 5 guards, suddenly as they talked to me, the dialogue for the Forsworn quest came up again, the one where you're framed? And it goes in a massive loop, you can't bribe your way out of it, and the only option is to either resist arrest, or back out and have 4 more guards do the same before they all just say "screw this" and attack you instead.

Now I can't return to move my wife out of my house, or move all of my belongings without having to basically butcher every person in the city. *sigh*

Yeah, that quest is known to be massively bugged. I purposely haven't completed it (haven't gone to the altar where you get arrested) just because of this. I guess you'll just have to kill the target as fast as you can and run as fast as you can away.

The only thing I could do was basically slaughter every guard in town. That seemed to get everyone off of my back. Wasn't a solution that I wanted. =/

I don't know if mine bugged or not but now all the foresworn are endlessly trying to kill a person in town who doesn't die some guy with an "A" name (important to another quest probably) so I guess this is just going to be an endless battle in Markath. Which already lagged like crazy and now it has an endless battle going on and a massive pile of dead guards. So I guess I won't ever be coming back here again.

Whats supposed to happen with the foresworn after if the quest is done properly? Because like I said in mine they are just endlessly trying to kill some random.

i will have to check and see but that may be the treasurer guy that is supposed to be killed at the end of that quest. maybe he was not removed from the essential npc list at the end of your quest.

Quest bugs are best posted in the spoilers sections for a couple of reasons. First, it often contains spoilers for people who haven't done the quest yet and because people in that section can often offer work arounds for the problems and our devs look in that area for quest bugs.

So I'm moving this.

I'm having the exact same problem so now I have to avoid Markarth completely. It's really annoying because when I get a quest that says go to Markarth I can't do it without annihilating the city.

"Welcome to Markath, safest city in the Reach!" :flamethrower: :intergalactic:

My Markath now glitches the very 1st time I enter, after getting the note to start the Forsworn quest, posted a topic about it yesterday. At least I think its the Forsworn questchain glitches my city too?
I got an undying & violent Vigilant Tyrannus guarding the market place and a raging Jarl and his guards plus a Thalmor deathsquad in the Keep....Still, I guess mine is a a paradise compared to the endless battle on the streets scenario, and sorry to hear about having a wife and house there!
&Whoa, Im glad for my other char whose Markath has been fine so far! After seeing this topic she definetely wont go further on the Forsworn quest, she`d allready been investigating it a bit.

I really hope this questchain will be fixed in a patch soon, it glitching ruins the whole beautifull city.

So, I didn't run into this problem while doing the quest, but there might be a reason:

I was drunk when performing this quest chain. I have no memory of doing the quest. Try drinking beforehand, see if you can get the thing done without causing bugs. (I'm actually being sincere with that advice, you never know if it'll work!)
