XBOX 360 controller problem in 1.2 and still 1.3

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 4:16 am

Yes, I use an Xbox controller. I don't want to hear it LOL. I'm not a hardcoe PC gamer, I just love the pretty graphics.

anyway, the xbox controller worked perfectly fine in patch 1.1 but was broken after 1.2 and still not fixed in 1.3

the problem is when remapping the buttons, it also remaps their functions during the menu screens and the buttons do not do what they are supposed to do. On the bottom of the screen it still says press A for whatever, B for whatever etc. but pressing those buttons do not do what they are labeled to do since they have been remapped. It would be great if the button remapping did not affect the menus at all like they were in patch 1.1

Does anyone know if Bethesda has ever acknowledged this issue or working on it? or if anyone knows a possible workaround (other than being forced to use keyboard/mouse for now)?

I agree. I'm having the same issues. I don't think people will blame us for using the gamepad for this type of game. It's First Person Shooters and MMO's that people freakout on.

I've stopped playing the game because I'm unable to play with the gamepad. Was hoping the 1.3 patch would fix this issue.

The other support threads about this keep dropping off the first few pages.

I posted a quick fix when 1.2 came out in another thread on here, and recently published it as a mod since the problem still exists in 1.3:

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3180

This restores the hard coded user-interface button mappings from 1.1, which allows you to remap the in-game actions again without everything going haywire.

Bumping this. I've only remapped a couple buttons on my 360 (I've actually tried a couple different 360 controllers to make sure the problem wasn't on my end) but I'm actually having a LOT of trouble with controller in the MENUS. It seems the sticks work in menus and the start button opens and closes things, but the face buttons don't really do much. I have to use the keyboard to actually make changes in the menus. ALSO, and this is SUPER ANNOYING, when I go to the map I get stuck because my controller will do everything that the buttons on the map says it should do, but there is no button for exiting the map so I don't even know which button i'm supposed to use to escape the map. I have to go the the menu switch my controls back to keyboard, escape out of the map, then switch back to the controller.

The packaging says that this game OFFICIALLY supports 360 controller so I think we have a right to have this svcker working properly. The only reason I bought this game on PC is because it said it supported the 360 controller. Please fix this Bethesda!!!!!

Yea, the problem you are describing is exactly what my mod fixes, so it should work for you!

As of 1.2, the game tries to move around the interface menu mappings whenever you remap an (unrelated) in-game action such as jump. And then on top of that, most of the interface menu actions break when remapped, so you end up stuck in most menus.

Many thanks for the fix, but I would like to report that this issue is STILL there in 1.4 as well! Are there that few people that play this game on PC with Xbox 360 controllers? Considering the game wasn't optimized for M&K at all, I'm surprised this issue has been completely ignored, especially when it's the 1.2 patch that broke it. :/

I'm a 360 player moving to PC. I plan on using the controller still. It is important that happens. So that I understand...The controller works fine if you do not remap the keys? It's just when you reassign the functions, exit or enter a menu or map, that it goes haywire?

yep, I've been using the 360 controller with default controls since release and I've never had a problem with it at all - nothing has gone wrong in-game or menus or the map. It seems it's only remapping that causes the issue.

I'm looking forward to trying repeater's fix.

Normally I play mouse&keyboard in FPS, but for some strange reason I gravitated towards using the xbox 360 controller on my PC Skyrim and have been loving it. I was so disappointed when the button remapping stopped working after 1.1 that I refuse to patch my copy and have been playing offline from Steam ever since.

Bethesda please fix!

I just bought the game for my laptop (first game bought in years for a PC. Been playing on PS3). I also bought a wired 360 controller since I'm not keyboard saavy with games and typing tends to aggravate the healing tendonitis more than a controller. I installed everything last Thursday (02/02) and all went well thankfully, buttons worked, able to be assigned no problem. Considering I'm a total noob when it comes to computer games/updates....would Thursday have been official 1.4 patch install time, or was it still on a beta? Trying to figure if there's reason for worry.

should be the official patch if installed on thursday... you can tell the version number by going into the menu and then to the system tab - it says in the bottom left corner - but I can't remember if it said "beta" or not. the last beta was the patch that was released anyways, so shouldn't make a difference...

My wireless Xbox 360 controller for windows works fine. I don't remap binds or anything though as the stock ones seem to be fine.

I haven't tried but that sounds cool, I would love to have more than 2 hotkeys, and quicksave on the controller! I'm hoping it shouldn't conflict with repeater's fix as he said his stuff only affects the menu

Awesome, there's hope yet  I'd just posted asking if the controller support could be improved but it looks like Waldkoenig's on the case
