I have had several events where Shadowmere will vanish just after I dismount. This is not during a fight or other event, I just dismount and he is gone. I have been unable to find him and had to reload an older saved game. Any suggestions as to how to get him back other than reloads? Thanks.

I also lost Shadow , I tried every trick you can find on the internet, nothing worked. Sad as I was, i finally gave up trying to find her. It is said that Shadow , will return to a stable at some point, but nothing for weeks on end.

To my surprise , one day last week i was cruising the country side, and there was Shadow , fighting with a forsworn.

What a relief I thought she was gone for good. What i found out is that , IF you ride Shadow , dismount & GET on ANY other horse you loose connection to her. She will remain where you dismounted her.

I got her back and will never ride another horse again!!

I just had this happen with a vanilla horse I bought to replace Shadowmere. I dismounted outside Rebel's Cairn, as soon as I got off, the entire horse catapulted off into the distance, luckily I was facing that way and saw it. I was able to recover the horse by running to it. Some weird Horse Catapult bug.

yea, i lost shadow about 1 week ago. I thought he died. Shadowmere CAN DIE ACTUALLY. If u do enough damage on him, or if u jump from a very high cliff while riding, he WILL die.
I remember riding another horse b4 he disappears, so this may be a bug.
Then 2 days ago in redoran's retreat, i saw a black horse fighting some bandits in the distance. Didnt pay attention much.
Then i saw this thread....
