Blocky purple startup screen then crash

Hi all,

I have a macbook pro 13" from early 2011. I know, I know, it's a [censored], [censored] computer for gaming and macs svck and so on. I get that. As a result, I assumed there was no way it would run Skyrim but a bunch of different youtube videos showed otherwise. So I downloaded Skyrim from Steam, put graphics settings on low, and tried to start the game. It booted up but the loading screen was all low-res purple and when click on start new game, it began to load and then crashed. Any idea why this might be happening? Thanks so much!

Need to give more information than that.

The game isn't made for Mac OS, but for Windows.

If using the latter, please post a dxdiag in a spoiler tag. If using the former, it's not supported.

Sorry, but the intgrated graphics chip, HD 3000, will never play Skyrim. The users you saw online must have 15 or 17 inch pros, much better graphic cards, with bootcamp installed.

I think your best bet to get the results you see on those videos on youtube, would be to make sure you've got the latest drivers for that onboard chip and ofcourse, the latest DirectX version (Jun 2010 redistributable -google it)

@you other guys: You'd be surprised, I think, at the HD 3000. I'm running Skyrim just fine on medium settings getting 30-35fps consistently. Smooth and looking good, very little to no lag at all.

Because I did what Atkara said and the problem I was having cleared up. The game wasn't working initially but I think it was a driver/directx issue. I also got the latest patch for Skyrim. In any case, it didn't work and now it works great, even with my onboard graphics card.

It's not a graphics card. It's a GPU that's integrated into the CPU, I believe.

Anyways, bad drivers do that sort of thing.
