I'm still running XP, considering upgrading to Win7, but wondering if I should just wait for 8 instead. I may buy a smallish SSD (64GB) and install Win 8 on it to play around for a while - I can select which disk to boot from in Bios - a safer form of "Boot Manager"

Don't bother with Windows 8 yet, at least not for another year and full reviews have been done.

Get Windows 7, you won't regret it, its great. Plus you should get a small increase in gaming performance compared to XP.

I've used Windows for years now, and so far I've not been disappointed in Win 7. In fact, I'm planning on skipping right over Win 8. Since I'm happy with what I've got now, I believe it's a matter of, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.'

I should be later today. I'm in the middle of downloading the beta...uh, Consumer Preview...to give it a look.

Never mind. After a 6 hour download, the install hung so I aborted the damn thing.

Yeah I'm not planning on doing the Win8 preview at all, there's just not enough that interests me over Win7 right now and the thought of reinstalling all of my games or dealing with driver issues is just far too prohibitive at this point for a preview. Long-term I'll be interested in Win8 for meshing mobile/tablet platforms and cloud storage with the desktop, but right now that synergy hasn't really been developed or become fully functional just yet.

There is a thread (up to #2 actually) in Community Discussion re : Windows 8 - no mention of Skyrim.

But consensus seems to be that Win8 pretty much svcks for desktops - designed totally for tablets w touchscreens

Getting Win7 is only worth if person have more then 2GB ram, with 2GB ram XP have better perfomance in 90% games compare to Win7

(I have Win7 and XP on same PC)

I downgraded from Win7 back to WinXP due missing possibility to have mouse window focus (without bringing to front/z-order change) which NView used to provide. I tried some external software to bring back that functionality, but it messed up everything.

Imagine if Win8 forced you to use a table input device over a mouse (as seen in the Win8 commercials/infos). That's about the same impact for those used to proper input systems.

Sitting not more than 2 feet away from me, on my desk, is my BluRay disk I wrote Windows 8 Developer Preview to.

I tried Windows 8 Developer Preview for a while. Skyrim worked well for me with that OS.

Though I realise the the Developer Preview is just the (a preview for developers to work with), I got to thinking that if the end product was anything like the preview I would avoid Windows 8 like the plague!

With Windows 8, Microsoft seem to be wanting a 'one size fits all' solution and that seems like a very bad idea with current technology.

Any way, I would discuss this more but I think this is not the best forum for that!
