In Memoriam or Rippin My Heart Out

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 6:48 am

This is dedicated to all of the named NPCs that have died since I escaped Helgen. This is for those who were wrongly cut-down by dragons, bandits and other Skyrim nasties.
Many of them were killed right in front of me. Me, the Dragonborn. I may need emotional counseling once I complete this game. Their deaths way heavy on my conscience. At this rate, the only people left will be me, my wife, a few guards, and some jarls.

If you have had similar experiences and felt the pain of their demise, please add their names to the Memorial Wall.

Memorial Wall:

Erandur (friend, wedding guest) - found dead on the road after attending my wedding
Grosta (friend, wedding guest) - killed by dragon while trying to defend her son
Roggi (friend) - killed during random dragon attack at Kynesgrove, why?
Gemma Uriel (miner) - killed while trying to hide from random dragon attack at Kynesgrove
Kjeld (miner) - killed during random dragon attack at Kynesgrove
Temba (mill owner) - killed during brutal ancient dragon attack at Ivarstead
Boti, Fastred, Jofthor (family of farmers) - died during brutal ancient dragon attack at Ivarstead. at least, they are together in death as they were in life
Fruki (miner) - Found dead next to Khajiit caravan in Dawnstar. Have no idea what happened but please don't blame the Khajiit. they are my friends and would not heart a dragonfly.

I can't even begin to list all the poor Khajiit traders that have lost their lives outside of Windhelm trying to defend against ancient dragons... Oh and the guy at the stables there, he dies once a day on my game. I have to reload my saves and avoid major cities to prevent such tragedy.

The Blacksmith guy in Falkreath who was missing his dog... Died in a dragon attack along with another man (whose name escapes me) and a few guards.
I was on my way out of town to find the dog when I hear roaring, I turn around to see a dragon mauling people in the town of Falkreath. I was too late to save everybody.

Needless to say, I loaded my previous save file but it was a troubling time for me. I felt so helpless.

Ah what most upset me apart from Lydia's demise was the young fella working at Riften Stables who I cleared up a bit of debt for and the moment I told him he was off the hook and could relax and get on with his life we got attacked by a dragon and he died. Such a sad waste of a young life. :nope:

A really funny thing happened in my game the other day. I was standing by the grindstone in Whiterun buying some iron ingots from the blacksmith woman. I needed more than she had so I waited 48 hours. When the wait ended she suddenly just dropped out of the sky in front of me, landed with a thud and exclaimed a 'ugh!' before dying instantly.

I then went into Warmaidens and her husband seemed blissfully unaware of this unfortunate incident.

lol. yeah, Lydia almost seems to want to jump on my blades. I've seen a lot of really gruesome slow mo kills on her poor self. I had to quit bringing her so that I could just do the fight once and not have to die and come back just to save her.

CANNOT believe that Skyrim kills off these NPCs like this. LOL... I'm not complaining, I love the flexibility and openness of this game.

- Alvor (the Riverwood Blacksmith)
- Sigrid (his wife)

Both died after a Blood Dragon attacked when I fast travelled to Riverwood to do some Soul Trapping. I was only level 7 or 8. My 2nd dragon. I was as shocked to see the dragon and more shocked at the after math! The little town is still reeling. Poor Sigrid dies within arms reach of her husband.

Essentially the entire population o Rorikstead.

Everyone who was outside that day, several named NPCs and guards, fell during a dual dragon attack. A named dragon and a frost dragon did quite a number. The guards and townsfolk aided me greatly in slaying the first dragon, but then a frost dragon showed up and by the time I had killed it, everyone else was dead.

Two little girls, presumably orphans now, survived the attack. Running up to one of the dragons and asking me if I was sure it was dead.

DAMN YOU ALDUIN!!

R.I.P. - What's Her Face (the wife of the Riverside blacksmith).

I certainly won't miss your snide, green-eyed, unfounded remarks; but, your husband is truly in deep mourning.

Oh, and thanks for the housekey!

That's kind of sad, tough one of the NPCs even tells you that if dragon were to attack the place they would all surely die since they have little means of defense.

In my game tough the children would not survive, i have the kill children mod installed so.

I remember an NPC saying that in one of my prior visits. I thought to myself "not if I have anything to do with it..."

Alas, only so much even the Dragonborn can do.

I wish the common townsfolk would flee indoors when dragons show up. I appreciate the effort, but taking on a dragon with an iron mace and no armor is a sure way to end up dead.

I like that NPC's get killed by the harsh skyrim world. I dont like that no one ever replaces them. At All.

lol yea, I'm not complaining either. I was just curious how many others have experienced this with named NPCs. I actually think it is quite clever. I have never played a game like this and I mean that in a good way. I know it probably breaks quests but I love the Radiant system. It keeps you on your toes. I guess if I want them to live, I need to start killing those dragons faster.

Yes, Grosta's son is an orphan now. He says "I can't believe my mom's dead. What do I do now?" I wish there was a way to adopt kids or at least take them to other people or the orphanage. Poor guy is probably still there just wandering around the mill. I'm afraid to check on him lest a dragon, wolves, spiders, sabre cats and bears follow me there and attack him and the guard.

lol yea. I saw someone fighting one with just fists and shouting something about I'm not afraid of you.
It is not fear that kill thee but the total lack of weapons, armor, tactics and well no ability to actually defeat it.

A dragon attacked Pelagia farm yesterday. Nimriel was working on the farm moments before the dragon landed. The dragon decided to have Bosmer for breakfast. I killed the dragon, but I was too late. She was killed by the dragon. I walked over to where she was and one of the sadder sounding explore songs starts playing.

A random dragon and random NPC in the wrong place at the wrong time with a random song created one of the most emotional moments I've had playing this game.
