Ascended necromancer.

I knew it would be tough, but this guy was insane. I was hitting him with Incinerate dual cast, Ice spear dual cast, and a host of other powerful destruction spells to really minimal effect. All he used was a staff of ice storms so his attacks were really slow but big and hard to dodge because the room was pretty small. I manuevered back and forth jumping from the path of the ice spell and shooting back with some of my own. It was the best challenge I had in a while, and after 3-4 minutes of guzzling potions and slinging everything I had at him I *almost* got him.

I was not mad, I wanted to do it again so I reloaded my game and geared up for a good fight. Then he died in 3 fireballs.... wtf dood? Like, 20 incinerates and Icy spears didn't kill him last time, and 3 lowly fireballs toasted him before he could even turn around?

In any case, it was fun the first couple times I fought him. I love fighting other spellcasters. Especially when you take turns breaking each other's wards and its a really close fight.

Holy smokes was that a challenge.

None for the moment. A level 20 Arch-Mage specialising in Destruction, Conjuration and Alteration with Restoration as support shouldn't have a hard time with Apprentice Necromancers.

Stupid 1.2 patch.

Fighting a Pyromancer while trying to complete the Night to Remember quest, along with 6 necromancers/mages with varying degrees of expertise. Picked the lower level mages off with the Dwarven Bow of Shock, shouted the Necromancers away and focused the Pyromancer. With no magicka resistance, this was the hardest battle I've faced so far. And then, just I was about to slay his fiery a$$, the portal opened and I was transported to the Daedra lord's dimension. Pretty unsatisfying, but Sanguine Rose was worth it.

This. I had to turn the difficulty right down, and he was still damn hard.

To answer the op. He may have forgot to put up his magic armor. They can be pretty squishy without it.

It seems to be broken as it protects me zero percent and breaks when I fight the Novice Fire Mages

Yeah he never used ward either of any kind. He was just really tough, then really not.

whats epic about conjuring atronachs to fight for you while you attempt to back them up with useless destruction spells or useless staffs? Arrgh I'm mad all over again that my destruction mage wasted hours of my life for a pointless character build

The dude spammed at least 10 fireballs that decimated me and my Deadra Lords within seconds. I had to chug a ton of fire resistance spells and absorption spells to get past him. Was not expecting that at all.

I tend to play sorcerers so conjuration is my main skill anyway the best mage battle was merokai while dreadfully under leveld for it.
