Da Books in Skyrim!

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 10:59 pm

Thought I'd post in spoilers section so that people can talk freely about the books that some may not have yet read.

I have probably read about 70-80 books cover to cover. I liked the one about Namira (was it called Beggar Prince?) where the 13th son of a King left home seeking fortune and came across Namira. He followed her for 33 days, begging to let him become an apprentice. Eventually she accepted, saying that he can have whatever disease he wants, but that he must always have one! lol Lesson Learned: Don't ask everyone you meet if you can become their apprentice, especially if they're evil.

I also liked the book 'A Gentleman's Guide to Whiterun' by the bard at the Bannered Mare. Can't believe he left out Ysolda though! Lesson Learned: sixism exists in Skyrim

Also liked the book about the Aldmeri assault on the Imperial city. Forget what it was called. The guy who delivered the terms to Titus, when hearing them declined, tipped over the cart and over100 heads of blades spies fell out! Then Titus, very bravely, fought his way out of the city (to Chorrol?), regrouped, and took back the Imperial City. Also seems like the Redguards in Hammerfell had a hard time of things. Lesson Learned: In War, only sign a treaty if you don't appear weak

Also read a book about the bloodlines of the Septims. Can't believe a dark elf, yes, a dark elf!, ruled the Empire for over forty years. She was killed in an ambush (outside Bravil/Leyawin???) apparently. Lessons Learned: Don't leave the Imperial City, send a look-a-like out in your stead.

Anyone got a favourite book/story

Yeah I liked that one. Very well-done as a story geared towards young boys. The "Choose your own adventure" type of book.

Although I collect one of every book in the game I've only taken the time to read a select few. I really like the book Cabin in the Woods. It was generally creepy and gave me goosebumps. In my defense it was late at night and my girlfriend was gone...lol. It took me a bit to figure out the ending but I think I got it. I won't say anything for those people that have yet to read it.

I also really liked the book Of Fjori and Helgi mostly because it was related to the miscellaneous quest where you go to that dungeon and have to kill a woman necromancer by the name of Lu'ah Al Skaven. It won't make alot of sense reading a copy of the book without partaking in the quest but the ending of that amall quest was great. You get a nice weapon from it to!

Reading The Oblivion Crisis was nice to remind of what took place during some of the events in the main quest of Oblivion. It would be really cool if they used your character's name from Oblivion in the book instead of "Hero". Kind of like they did with your Skyrim character in Kodlak's journal in the Companions questline.

There's a few more that I can't think of right now. If I do, I will post them on here.

The Lusty Argonian Maid vol I and II--for some reason whenever I encountered these, they were typically found within a the proximity of a bed. Is it pure coincidence my Nord awakens feeling so refreshed (from sleeping near his spouse) due to the presence of these books being on the nightstand? Or is this just complete fanciful thinking of an overly fecund immagination? :hubbahubba: Regardless, you've got to love the tact Bethesda's got !

Shadowmarks---because even after becoming the Thieves Guildmaster, my Nord still can't figure out which houses he's supposed to avoid. The last break in to one of those homes in Whiterun was a complete fiasco. Should've paid closer attention to that blasted mark before sneaking in that night. I barely escaped with my life..... :glare:

Herbalist Guide to Skyrim---the safest non-culinary way I've discovered so far in recognizing poisonous flora in the wild.

Songs of Skyrim---because learning how to sing along with the Bards in tavern songs makes my hill billy Nord seem more cultured. Aw hell. Because it might actually help him score with that pretty blond Bard in Whiterun

Fall of the Snow Prince---which now teaches me where Falmer eyes come from. Acutally, until reading this book, I had no idea the Falmer were the most screwed over in Skyrim when it came to racial genocide--first by the Nords and then the Dewmer. Their super SOB story makes them the true underdog in this game.

I just read another book called The Woodcutter's Wife. In my post above I mentioned the book called Cabin in the Woods. Well, The Woodcutter's Wife explains why exactly something is happening in the other book. If you find these, give them a read. They're short, creepy and very intriqueing. It doesn't matter which order you read them in.

The woodcutters wide and the cabin in the woods are pretty good, and after reasingthe thread about them I don't think I'll being visiting any pine forests in the near future.

Other than that I liked the one about "tricking" Azura and one about some guy who received blessings to fight some other guys and win some battle-axes affection...

For those that didn't know and are interested, you can put all the books on your phone, or kindle. I use it all the time and don't have to worry about keeping all the books in game. Although I still like to collect them, but I just read them on my android.
