NPC Voice Crackling

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 11:05 am

Hey all,

I just got Skyrim today and installed it with the Steam pre-load. I've noticed that whenever I talk to an npc, it usually it just cracking sounds rather than the actual audio. I've tried it on all frequency settings in my sound options, and it occurs the least on the "16-bit 96000 Hz" setting, but it still happens often enough to be annoying.

Anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix or is it something that needs to be patched? I have subtitles on so it's not particularly urgent, but it just gets annoying after a while.

Thanks!

I've got the same problem. NPC voices cut from their normal voice to static and back multiple times during a conversation.

Similar, but still different.
The crackling occurs and random times during the character's speech, and can happen for the entire line, a part of the line, or not at all. It doesn't seem to be connected with my orientation to the NPC or anything else to that matter; entirely random.

There was a post on this exact issue a few pages back. It suggested setting your sound format to 16 bit, 44100hz. I did that and it has completely resolved this issue for me.

Wow, I totally missed checking that frequency. This seems to have solved it. I tried searching around and couldn't find anyone with this same problem -- guess I just missed that topic.

Thanks!
