Weird graphical glitches?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 11:03 pm

Hey guys. So whenever I look at the water or look at a body or something, I get this graphical glitch:

Except it doesn't just look like that. It rapidly flashes on the screen when, like I said earlier, I look at something such as the water or a body. It looks brown mixed with blue (pretty sure the blue is the water) and just flashes rapidly and makes weird noises. If I were to run up a hill the glitches would take longer to show up.

I'm worried my cards are artifacting, even though this is the first time I've seen something like this. I'm running 2 GTX 580 Classified Ultra 3gb cards in SLI mode, obv. Any ideas?

Just discovered, if I disable SLI, the flashes don't happen anywhere near as much.

Here's a video I made of the problem.

Whats the temps like on those cards...
Are the BIOS for both cards the Same? (Caution here , do a lot of reading before you play)
When in the game are they loading the Exact same amount of VRAM?
What Power Supply you using to feed those bad boys.
How much Ram (system RAM) do you have installed?
What OS ..32/64?

I am using 2 EVGA 580s (3 GB) and they rock this game like no other. SLI works great . I have 16 GB System RAM , The other night i had booth cards running 3.3 GB of data and the system commit (RAM allocated) was @ 11.4 GB in use!! ( yes you can cause stutter on a 3 GB card...lol) was testing to find the limits...took some doing , Mods + settings + Shadows Ultra.

Check your temps ...make sure your fans are Ramping up...do you have a second monitor? the card with an extra monitor gets clocked at max and wont throttle back down (nvidia says ..."by design" .) So one card would always be warmer.

My temps under load don't even reach 60c.

Haven't checked BIOS but I assume they are the same.

Haven't checked how much VRAM in use, don't even know how to check that.

Using an AX1200 PSU.

16gb RAM.

64bit Windows 7.

I don't use a second monitor, and the fans do ramp up when necessary.

SInce you have nearly the same setup I do and your setup is fine, you've got me kind of worried that something is wrong with my cards. I used an FPS limiter and when I got near water the screen flashed once but didn't happen again. According to comments on Youtube it's because my FPS is too high or something. When I limited my FPS to 100 it doesn't spaz out, except for that one time like I said earlier. I dunno, are my cards broken? This is the first time this has happened to a game on my system. The Witcher 1&2 were fine and I played those for 40 and 24 hours respectively with no glitches.

Haven't checked BIOS but I assume they are the same. (Never assUme anything) The Bios is not an impotrant thing, Nvidia states even cards that are from different MFG can work together, I am anol about things..Both my cards have updated BIOS and are a perfect match. (MSI Afterburner can show you the BIOS rev.)

Haven't checked how much VRAM in use, don't even know how to check that. >>>I use "Process Explorer" free from microsoft. It will show you...GPU (engine) , GPU VRAM , And Shared System RAM in use. the Last is an important one.

Using an AX1200 PSU.>>>Lol same here, Corsair!

16gb RAM. Good... Skyrim loves Ram.
64bit Windows 7. Needed to access the Ram...good

The Game shipped capped at 60 FPS for a reason....many things bug out if going past 60 FPS...physics...bla bla ...Try caping the FPS @ 60. A solid 60 FPS is Gorgeous.

I have mine caped at 58 FPS because that gives me the smoothest play, my Monitor is 1920 x 1080 32" @ 60 Hz.

According to other people I should use an FPS limiter and set it to 59 FPS and use vsync as well. Thoughts?

V sync OFF? Seems most flickering occurs due to disabled V sync and or monitors with a refresh over 60hz. I personally get water flicker occasionally regardless even on single GPU and V sync on and forced on in my CCC(mostly after fast travel) and going into a cell will normally remedy it. Most of the time full screen flicker is tied to FPS and the game being locked with V sync but I keep water reflects off and have had no issues since the change. Might be worth a try to toggle them off first.

Yeah vsync off. Seems I get the best performance with it on, but the mouse lag...

I guess I could try the FPS limiter with 59 FPS and with vsync on, see how that could do...

Ya most likely a product of having it off and the game running at high frames....try limiting frames to 60 or 59 and see if that solves it. As far as I know disabling V sync can mess up physics and even timescale in the game. I get terrible mouse response as well which is why I play with a 360 controller.

Huh, a 360 controller. I don't know why I didn't think of that. That's a good idea.

Works like a charm if you have one give it a shot better than messing with the vsync.
