PC control re-mapping issues

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 2:43 pm

Tried a few searches and general perusing of these forums and didnt really find this issue discussed.

I have Skyrim PC installed on Windows 7 Home machine. I have issues when i re-map my keyboard layout. I re-map only the following: move fwd to right mouse, activate to left mouse , slide right to S, backup to Z. This causes E to become Right hand, and W to become Left hand.

What i find is, i can not select OK on the Fast Travel map, nor can i pick up certain objects (like books) when it shows "press E to take" It also will not allow OK selection or any customization when making a new character.

I really dont want to use the default WASD layout, as im ingrained from FPS games in the past to use mouse look and M2 to move, A/S to slide, and Z to backup.

I have seen several posts advising to use an X-box controller, but one big reason i got it on PC is to use Mouse/Keybaord.

Any help is appreciated!!

Some keys can be changed but the menus will not reflect the new mapping. This is the case with "E". With other keys, remapping completely breaks functionality. "Q" "R" "T" and "F", most notably. There is no work around for this except for mods and no indication from Bethesda that the issue will ever be addressed.

There are lots of mods to let you remap your keys to what you want (unlocking the hard-coded key and change them). Try Nexus.
