Could my PC handle Skyrim?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 3:08 pm

I plan on building a mid/high end gaming PC this year and these are th parts I plan on using;

I'm just curious on how well it could handle games such as Skyrim once its built.

So, what do you all think?

The only thing I would change, but it up to you is that CPU cooler I have tried and found it very loud and @ $34.99 for 20-25 dollars more you can go with a liquid cooling setup and very quite. Just a thought... good luck on the build.

I would do liquid cooling, i'm just worried I wouldn't set it right or it'd leak into a waterfall of rage and ruin the system. Its mehh right now. I'll give it a try eventually.

Nice card just a tip I had major issues with that specific RAM you have there I would go Corsair and I would also go Corsair for the PSU but that is just from experience. Never had a bad Corsair product. Zalman CPU cooler all day over that thing at the bottom.

Aside from brand differences you built my computer, you won't be dissapointed! I however am planning to go with the new nvidias when they release, you can feel the 560 struggle in some scenarios. Not with skyrim however (for me at least).

Yes, no problems. Bessides unlike Oblivion, Skirim scale down really well. I usually play on high or ultra with the official hi res textures pack. similar configuration to yours. i5 + radeon 6800 serie (mid range) and 8 gb ram.

Just be carefull on your videos settings, if you see weird stuff like purple textures or the water of a lake disapear, you may be pushing your graphic card too hard. just lower your settings a bit and it goes back to smooth graphics.

I tried the lowest settings for fun, and even that still look good. that s what I mean by *scalling well*. In comparison oblivion scaled poorly, lowest settings looked like crap.

Ahh good! I might just stow off and wait for the Ivy Bridges from Intel to come out & i'll see how well those work.

Don't get me wrong, Oblivion was fun, but it did look horrible. & I don't plan on pushing my PC to the extremes so often. I might do an OC here and there, but I want it to last. Only reason i'm going with NVidia is because they seem to perform slightly better than Radeons. Sure the Radeon has a great amount of cores, but they lack in some performance. If I ever build an AMD build, i'll probably throw in an FX series CPU, a Radeon 6870, and use of course a MoBo with the 9x chipset. I'd be able to score a fine amount of money selling a rig like that.

I looked at the Zalman CPU coolers and I switched out the previous one I had for a Zalman! Check out the wishlist again if you want. I also switched the RAM brand to Corsair because it seems every review I read, the Corsair RAM never seems to fail. I want to keep the PSU though, you can't beat its performance for the price it's at.
