Ebony

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 4:11 pm

Hello All,

I am about to enter a mine that is "known" for Ebony content.

I am playing a Battle Mage (still at low level - 17). I don't do very much smithing so my level is fairly low in that skill.

Do I want Ebony for anything going forward?

If you ever plan on taking up smithing and going down the heavy route, then keep it. Otherwise, sell the ore to that orc.

refine the ore then sell it. or make armour, enchant it, then sell it.

if you're gonna be a blacksmith you're gonna need a real lot of it... and it's less easily found than you'd think... stock it up, refine it and keep piles of the stuff.

not a bad idea to through some in a trunk somewhere. ingots are 3-400 each. i guess it really depends how cheap you are.

Ebony is necessary for smithing ebony gear and daedric gear as well. So if you do expect to smith later, seeing as how rare ebony is you'd be wise to stash ingots along with dragonbone and dragonscales for future use.

Get it. Whenever you find a mine like that, it's worth hanging on to the stuff.

Leave it there until you start seeing Ebony weapons and armor or get the Ebony smithing perk.

Or if your packrat syndrome urges you to mine it dry... just be sure to stow it at a player house or else you'll be lugging around a LOT of ebony ore.

Ebony ore is only used for smelting, so smelt as much of it as you can. It's better to have 20 bars in your bags, than 40 ore. Most mines have a smelter either inside or just outside the mine.

And I'd definately stash it in one of your houses. If you end up using Smithing, you'll need some to craft Daedric/Ebony stuff. If you don't, you can always sell it later. I also recommend to mine it now, so the mine can respawn (takes an in-game month).
