Nice spoiler in the topic title.

I can tell you what happens if you don't kill it: nothing.

I am never going to do it in any of my playthroughs. He is very helpful to my character and has been a reliable ally while Delphine on the other hand has spent the entire game barking orders at my character is the dragonborn which is whom she should be serving and then when she tries to issue me an ultimatum to murder someone that has been an ally and even a mentor well it's a pretty easy to decisision for me. Delphine can stick it. The blades were awesome in oblvion but now they are just a shell of what they used to be. I am sure both Baurus and Jauffre would have had a more reasonable stance than she did.

It would be nice if instead of random attacking it... you could challenge he to a honorable duel between two Dovahs... at least it would make me fell better... I just have to do the Blades quest... I really like the blades... and they protect me....and they are supposed to protect the Emperor...so Me = Rightful Emperor

You can get the Dragonslayer Buff without killing the Dragon. Esbern will send you out to kill a Ancient Dragon and after you give him one the Scales he will give you the Buff but only if you killed Paarthurnax or havent finished the Mainquest.

I can't tell you what happens if you kill Paarthurnax, since I couldn't be bothered. Paarthurnax is one of the few "characters" in-game that I actually liked. He's been around for ages and has been peaceful all that time, there's no reason at all to kill him. I'd rather Fus-Ro-Dah Esbern and Delphine off of Sky Haven (anyone know if they are essential after finishing the main quest?) than kill of Paarthurnax. The Blades are pathetic just sitting at Sky Haven and recruiting people after a [sarcasm] very, very serious and hard initiation ritual [/sarcasm].

The whole kill-Paarthurnax quest seems to be a last minute addition, just to force the player to make a decision. It would be better if you could also complete/fail the quest by ratting Delphine and Esbern out, by giving their location to the Thalmor.

They already ratted themselves out by being able to show up to the Peace Conference.

This thread's title is too much of a major spoiler...even if it is in the spoilers forum.

OP...think before you create a thread again.

'The Greaybeard's leader' or using his name as the title, would have sufficed.
