pixelated graphics problems

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 11:10 am

Having some pixelated graphics issues with Skyrim, and was wondering if anyone had a fix or was also having this problem. In some towns, it will look like there is a blueish pixelated grid that moves when my character moves, also, some textures will be correct and look great, but others (at distance and close up) will look grainy and pixelated. I do have the high res pack downloaded, and tried loading with and without the texture package with the same result. My OS is on a SSD, but I have Steam and Skyrim (for space issues) on a internal HDD. Could this be a problem with competing texture packages or something?

Man that's weird, can you post a screenshot of your problem please? :)

Also post your System Spec's so me and other peoples can further help you.

Apparently the latest AMD graphics drivers (12.2) have some kind of bug with anti-aliasing in Skyrim. If that's the problem you'll either have to revert to 12.1, or turn off AA, or wait for 12.3 which will fix it.

If that's not it, can you post a screenshot of the issue?

Yeah, my AMD drivers just auto updated to 12.3 (12.2 was fine for me?) and now i have the same weird spiderlike grid especially in water and fog patches, I hope AMD resolves this quickly. Grr :(

edit: just saw the rest of the threads. apparently 12.2 drivers say 12.3. oh well.... patiently waiting...

There's been some pixelation reported for the AMD FX processors, the six core CPUs, in various UT3 games.

Yeah, would love to post grabs, but I don't think the forums allow it. Only ran into the blue grid in solitude, but I haven't been near water yet so it's probably gonna happen there too. other textures will become super grainy and pixelated when moving (rocks, mountains, trees, sometimes character textures as well. Doesn't happen on everything, but on enough to make it really annoying

Have the updated 12.3 drivers as well

AMD Phenom 3.3gHz 6 core processor
Radeon 6870- 1 G RAM
Gigabyte UMD MOBO
16 G RAM
DirectX11
Intel 120GB SSD
Seagate 2TB HDD

I'm completely up to date, but I had to RMA my mobo, so I didn't play on 12.2 much (had the preview drivers, worked ok)
Hopefully we get a fix soon, but I'm still busy with Mass Effect anyways :)
I was looking forward to messing with the creation kit once I got my box running again tho... :(

12.3 drivers is the culprit imo run back to 12.1 or 12.2 PREVIEW anything past that won't help you on anything but a 7xxx series card and will cause issues mostly with AA but I found some trouble even with it off. Also set your CCC to default if you have any issues after driver change. I know my CCC defaults work best for Skyrim and I am using 12.1 official on my 6970. Stop back if you have any trouble.

Here's what the pixelation looks like in a You Tube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wZ0KC0KJfM

I'm having the same problem as shown in the video after updating to AMD 12.3

My card is a 5870

I'm having the exact same problem... how can I revert to 12.2?

12.1 is what you want the issue exists in 12.2 and 12.3. I keep each version of my drivers installer so if I need to go back I use those. I uninstall the current one(at that point a prompt to restart comes up but I ignore it). I then install the version that I want back and then restart my computer. Then clean any registry issues(I use CCleaner).
