I do love an open world RPG's, especially those of the medieval like theme.
I just can't find myself getting into the game as much as 'Morrowind' which was my favourite.
Yes it looks impressive, it looks better with mods as per usual of course.
However...
- It started with the crashes caused by bad memory management. Thankfully the community fixed that quickly.
- Then came the fear that every patch or update they did would break something else, which so far they've managed to do every time. Most annoying - Elemental Resistance.
- Generally huge list of bugs, from game mechanics to quests, it is littered with broken or patch-broken or kinda works. I can't progress is some major Quests.
- If you make the choice of cross-platform a game, at least spend some time optimising for each platform. It's clear they did not, It shows.
This game series made it's name on being a PC game, It's the ideal choice for this type of game, especially with the legendary community of modders whom make these game so great in the after-market stages per-say. The Buzz created for the series was on a level Beth, could not do or at least not afford, their players did it for them. Unsettling your primary demographic which made you popular is how most brands end up going down hill faster than you can say "do do". They did this when they shifted their focus to the console instead of the PC.
The 'fun' begins now the console games are starting to cost them money with each patch. Yes that is why patches are so infrequent, it's because, every patch comes with a huge fee ($40k apparently). You'd think they'd be more careful with the testing of their patches, but apparently not.
Don't get me wrong I have no problem with the game being available for the consoles, I just strongly believe the porting should of gone PC -> Consoles. The optimisations should of been to make the PC the primary with the consoles to be a optimised version due to hardware limitations in the current generation of consoles. Just like any game that was made popular on a console, I would most likely be annoyed if they suddenly made it work primarily for the PC and port back to the console. It's a principle that urks your customers and tarnishes future sales. Sometimes big business' just see many of us as sheep, but sheep still know a cliff when they see one and will not go near it.
Many have already said it and I'm sure it just been seen as an empty threat, but the next in the series I won't be getting at launch (I have always)... I'll wait for it to be properly reviewed; If it it ends up as another console ported PC game, I just won't bother getting it.
