Patching Via Steam

Hi all

I've recently been messing with the mods from Nexus which resulted in the need to reinstall Skyrim a few times until I'm finally happy with the Mods I've chosen. When I run the Skyrim DVD installation it then logs into Steam to update to 1.4.x and says it will take 2 hours or so to complete. Is this normal? I got my DVD on the day of release so assume it is the version 1!

Is there any way to avoid having to do this 2 hour download each time I want to reinstall if I keep making a mess of things?!

Thanks in advance

It all depends on your Internet connection.

And there isn't, since Steam needs to verify that you actually own the game. At that moment, it detects an outdated game and proceeds to update.
After a clean install, you could back up the Skyrim files though. That would prevent it without actually reinstalling each time. You're restoring from a backup. You can either use Steam's built in backup utility or backup the folder yourself.

Yes, there is a solution.

Once you have downloaded everything do the following;

Steam > Library > Right-click Skyrim and choose 'Backup Game Files' > Next > Choose where to store backup > File size > DVD.This will create two DVD images in the location you choose with an exe file so that you don't have to burn anything to DVD. Every time you uninstall skyrim then use the exe instead of the DVD you bought at shop and it will install the game and be already patched to latest version.

Hope this helps.

Awesome guys - thanks for your help. :)

On a side note I tried updating it using my girlfriends steam ID as she plays Skyrim too and it's the High Texture DLC files that are causing my pain. I've emailed Steam to ask them to remove them from my account to avoid this happening again.
