Thalmor questions

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 1:35 am

Asking as someone who has completed only a third of the main game, longest I've made is start Diplomatic Immunity...

I am playing as an Altmer battlemage, roleplaying a Thalmor agent.
Some questions.

1) Do Thalmor personnel, or even other Altmer treat me differently? Do the Thalmor agents still demand to know whether I worship Talos?

2) Do I have access to more Thalmor quests than other races?

3) (How) can I avoid Thalmor hitsquads?

4) Is the Priest in Whiterun immortal? 'Cause he's got a death sentence for his speeches!
Furthermore, are there inhabited Talos shrines around?

5) Does wearing Thalmor robes or Elven Armor have NPCs treat me differently? So far it hasn't, using unhooded robes and Light Elven Armor (equivalent of Leather armor)

6) Can I complete Diplomatic Immunity without any violence, or being detected?

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that you get no special quests/recognitions/options from being an altmer or any other race for that matter.

your race has no impact on the game. guards and enemies say different things, but that's all.

oh and.. the priest in whiterun isn't immortal. killed him, because i'm mostly in whiterun and he is annoying as hell.

you can't finish the diplomatic immunity quest without killing, because even if you get to the end undetected(which i think could only work with invisibility), as soon as you get to the tortured person, you will have to fight.

1) No, and no.

2) Nope.

3) No dice. Justiciar Assassination teams will begin attacking you as soon as you complete Diplomatic Immunity, or the quest for Eorlund Gray-Mane's wife, wherein she has you locate her missing son.

4) No, thankfully! As a matter of fact, I got him killed last night on accident. Went werewolf for kicks at night in Whiterun, and he was still spouting nonsense. He spotted me, began to run.. and a guard trotted up, ran him through - and then griped about the arrow in his knee. Odd that he didn't attack me. O.o

5) Not at all, no.

6) To a small extent, yes. As an Altmer, regardless of what you're wearing - you can walk about the Embassy as you please. Other races will be attacked on sight after they leave the party. You will not be attacked, up until a certain point. Then you must resort to bloodshed.

Hope this helps. (Also love your avatar. Personally hoping to join the Enclave somehow in Fallout 4.)

Sadly no, they treat you like any other character and will attack you if you reply wrongly.

2) Do I have access to more Thalmor quests than other races?
No there's only a Thalmor agent in Markarth that gives out a small quest, satisfying but that's basically it.

3) (How) can I avoid Thalmor hitsquads?
I try to avoid the main quest as it will set you against the Thalmor. I only got the hit squads after grudgingly doing a certain part the main quest. The College of Winterhold is another one you might want to avoid at a certain point. And of course the Civil War, neither side should win as we'd like to keep them weakened now do we?
I'm just sad that whatever you do in this game seems to eventually put you in direct confrontation with the Thalmor. *sighs*

4) Is the Priest in Whiterun immortal? 'Cause he's got a death sentence for his speeches!
Hehehe *wrubs hands together* he certainly isn't.

5) Does wearing Thalmor robes or Elven Armor have NPCs treat me differently? So far it hasn't, using unhooded robes and Light Elven Armor (equivalent of Leather armor)
Nope :(

6) Can I complete Diplomatic Immunity without any violence, or being detected?
I believe it is an option but guess what? That option in the quest is bugged. You should be able to talk with General Tullius for another option to deal with the Thalmor as it clearly shows up in your quest log and I heard PC gamers talk about a note hat exists for that but doesn't trigger any option(see uesp for that).

You can kill the guy in Whiterun, I don't think race can change anything.

I've heard as an Altmer you can grab some Thalmor Robes from one of the rooms in the Embassy in Diplomatic Immunity and the guards won't attack you for not sneaking past. I'm pretty sure they will attack when you get to Esbern's files in the dungeon, though.

Wow, this blows. I sure hope the construction set will come soon, it really bugs me how Bethesda always forces you to side with the so-called good guys.

From what I've read you need hooded Thalmor robes for the effect to work.

Yep, I've saw some in a room to the right of where your wood elf contact leads you out of the kitchens.
