Atrocious Load Times, Suspect HDD

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 4:28 pm

First off let me say this, Skyrim runs PERFECTLY

as

Vanilla

However... I have a plethora of mods around ~100

And S.T.E.P

Fully installed, so every texture mod out there almost.

My resolution is 1920 x 1080 and the game itself (when loaded)

Runs almost with no lag around 30-50 FPS and looks beautiful

HOWEVER

Whenever i need to reload after a death, it takes anywhere from 1-3 minutes to load my save game.

If i start a new game it loads in 5 seconds however.

Have a look at the sizes of your save games.

What are your PC's specs? Also, you might want to cut down on how many mods you have!!

Check your save for Fragments...

I use Auslogics Disk Defrag and with that you can anolize your disk , then can look at the fragmented files & defrag any single file you choose. my saves are always scattered! My 12 meg save is usually in about 20 fragments on the HDD and after defrag game loads the save faster...

But I save a lot...so is rewritten a bunch of times during a session.

100 mods, youve probably got a ton of scripts running which will slow things down.
{so lower the script heavy mods in number, or/and, increase the computation speed of your CPU}

other issue is loading too much data from a low data rate device (harddrive)
{buy a SSD if you want to load loads of data quickly, or, remove the texture packs}

I use a 7200 RPM drive and no matter how many textures I load the game down with it loads in a second or two. You do not need a SSD to play Skyrim at all if you have the money to spare do it but a quality high speed HDD will work fine.
