The only good thing of the disappointing ending is...

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 9:11 pm

Yeah, as expected, I feel soooo disappointed even a bit sad after beating Alduin.

First off, Alduin at the final fight is exactly the same as the very first dragon you fight, only this time you're MUCH more powerful than back then, and you have 3 immortal NPC heroes kicking Alduin's [censored] instead of a few easily one-shotted guards. Second, Alduin doesn't get any special attacks or awesome WMD except for the lame meteor shower which does tiny damage to me, and the poor guy can just easily stunlocked by impact, and can be kept on the ground by Dragonrend.

After beating him like beating a child (and when he cries while dying, I actually felt sad for him - I felt the fight completely unfair to him), the 4 dudes then came and cheered on me (which I find actually insulting because the three heroes' cheering voices were so emotionless and were so out of sync from each other). Then the big guy more or less just urged me back to Nirn because I'm not supposed to be in heaven.

After sent back to the Throat of the World, darn it was so sad. The ingame time was 3 AM, the dragons were mourning over Alduin's demise, and one by one flew away, even Paarthurnax sounded sad, and after a short speech, he flew away too...left me alone, in the blizzard, in the snow, in the fog, in the night...so lonely...so cold...so dark...

...it was then, a single dragon flew over, and landed next to me - Odahviing! Then he talked to me a bit, and then said he'll become my ally, and I may call him anytime...he's literary the only friend in a cold dark night!

Besides him and Arngeir, ALL the other npcs just don't acknowledge me at all, the first thing the first guard I met said was complaining that I released a dragon away, Nazeem still mock me of not getting in the cloud district often even though I fricking saved his city and captured a dragon there, the Whiterun Jarl and his biatch doesn't ask me "hey how did you go!?" even though I just flew away on a dragon's back to save the world 10 ingame hours ago, and worst is Delphine after a short thank you she then continues to bug me to kill Paarthurnax.

Seriously, I've never felt so lonely after beating the main quest in an RPG, it's like everything I did was for nothing.

Eh, same here. It felt like there was absolutely no point in saving the world, yeah every one and then you stumble into someone who aknowledges you as the savior of the world but that's it, it's almost like no one cared about the world being saved other than a few MQ characters.

it's strange because it's so different from oblivion where everyone knew you had just saved the world from mehrunes dagon and would acknowledge you.

now all I get is "I know you, aren't you the new Welp in the Companions...."

wtf

Yeah, I've said it many times before already. The fight with Alduin was completely tacked on and felt like they did not even try to make it difficult, or memorable, or even significant in any way. He was no different from most other dragons in the game combat wise, and barely has more health than a standard ancient dragon.

The weakness of the design behind his encounters ruin any sense of dread, and give us no reason to fear him. Unless the final DLC is set up so that we meet him again, only this time he is level 100+ and actually has unique abilities....they have essentially given him the Mannimarco treatment by making him a pathetic wimp.

What, you save the world this one time and expect special treatment? Acknowledgment even?!

I used to stop World-Eaters like you, then I took an arrow to the knee...

(Can you believe that's the first time I've used that one? I've resisted for so long, but couldn't hold it back :D)

I defeated the enemy of every living thing in Tamriel, who even haunts and eats the souls of the dead in Sovngarde and all the guards care about is that there's "fur coming out of my ears" -.-''

I agree. I was expecting something along the lines of the Imperial Dragon Armor Chancellor Ocato had forged for you at the end of Oblivion. Or even Kagrenac's Tools from Morrowind, even though they weren't a direct reward.

Hell, even having random guards walking up and saying, "All hail - The Champion of Cyrodiil!" or upon ending conversations with them, "It was an honor speaking with you, Champion.", or "Honor to you, Nerevarine.". ..Those were miniscule things in the grand scheme.

Yet even they felt more rewarding than Skyrim's post-Main Quest befuddlement.

I suppose you can have Bards sing a new song about the battle in Sovngarde, but you aren't even mentioned. The song implies that the Greybeards actually vanquished Alduin.

I was just expecting... more. Even a sword (Or weapon of your choice.) made from Alduin's bones or something would have made me happy. Odahviing is great when I feel like role-playing. Calling him when inside of Whiterun or Solitude, and watching him soar overhead is pretty cool.

I have taken to completing the Main Quest as fast as possible, then forgetting it ever existed. Major disappointment.

The common folks didn't see you kill Alduin in Sovengard, you silly rabbits. I liked the end of the Main Quest just fine. I don't need fireworks and a pretty screen to let me know I accomplished anything

I was also disappointed after completing the MQ. Overall the main story is a gigantic letdown.

I can deal with lack of recognition for being the hero, however the world was no different from before I defeated Alduin to after. Or for that matter, from when I started the game. I mean, what did Alduin and his dragons really do that was so horrible and terrifying. He destroys Helgen in the first 5 minutes of the game, and that is it. After that, no cities fell, no lands laid to waste, and no one important died. I saw dragons kill maybe 3 or 4 guards, who were cookie cutter anyway and under some circumstances I might kill myself. I saw more innocent people die from giant spiders, bears, trolls, or whatever else was on the road, than I saw fall to the great dragon menace. And in Sovngarde, big bad Alduin made some mist, ate the soul of 1 nondescript guy, and then got his [censored] handed to him. And the hero spirit npc's probably could have done the "world eater" in without me.

It felt like being the dragonborn wasn't that big of a deal and about any bandit chief with good armor could have accomplished just as much.
