Help with forcing marriage.

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 2:19 pm

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but I can't seem to get marriage dialogue although I'm wearing the amulet of mara and I've done sidequests when required.
The girl in Riverwood traders didn't work, Ysolda didn't work, and now Sylgja.
The other two I was just testing out but Sylgja is a must. I've tried console commands to set the relation ship to 4 (lover) but I still don't get the dialogue.
What gives?

I'd be interested to know this too as I've never managed to get marraige dialogue or any different dialogue from wearing the amulet. I haven't tried console commands though.

You shouldn't need any console commands for Sylgjia as she is already on the marriage list. She is currently taking care of my house in Whiterun. As long as you are wearing the amulet and have delivered the letters to her family in Darkwater Crossing, she should talk to you about marriage. Do you have an earlier save you can maybe go back to and try again (before you tried to change your relationship settings)?

Yes, but I just got out of blackreach, I have the annoying (especially now) habit of just over writing my last save in dungeons, so I'll loose a few hours.
Oh and I didn't mess with the addfaction command as she is already available I just increased her dispostion towards me, as this seems to be a prerequisite for marriage as well.

Marriage only works if you use the amulet of Mara you get from the priest in Riften. Other amulets of Mara won't work.

This is the first I've heard of it. That could very well be it. Off to Riften i go to test this.
Just did it, yes that was it. Thanks for the info!
I've looked at multiple FAQs and they all just said you needed any one not the one from the temple. They even list loot locations that you can find them. Strange that it would get overlooked.

Other amulets work.
You just need to ask the Priest about marriage first before you can marry anyone.
This starts the unmarked marriage 'quest'.

My amulet of mara which i found on a bandit works, so that is probably a bug. Most people require you to do a quest for them or there guild/relative, to open up marriage dialoge.

There is more than one???? Did not know that. Yes you need the one from the temple in Riften.
Edit:...guess talking to the priest is the key then.
