Disable Steam Cloud synchronization?

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 11:10 pm

Just wondering if there's any way to disable Steam Cloud synchronization for Skyrim. I switch between two computers rather frequently and every time I boot up Skyrim I have to waste time uploading or downloading from the cloud. Honestly not even sure what it accomplishes since it doesn't sync my save files, which is the only use I could think of. So, is there any way to get rid of it just for Skyrim? I don't want to disable it entirely since it does seem to manage my saves for some other games.

Sure, right click on your game and select the updates tab. there's a box to check.

Sure, right click on your game in: Steam>Library, select properties, then select the updates tab. there's a box to check.

Fixed.

Not true at all. The Cloud Sync setting keeps. I just messed with it yesterday and restarted Steam to test out some network problems I was having and it stayed in the setting I picked.

Won't help, I can't see online videos anyways.

I do know for a fact that the Cloud Sync setting keeps. A small amount of folks experiencing an anomaly does not mean it doesn't work, as opposed to the update option.

None of my steam settings hold and it is updated on every prompt. This would include: Cloud(new and I will give them a pass on it aside it doesn't cause any issue if it is on) and more importantly (game updates). Steam will admit that their update resets as far as the cloud well it is a new feature and most likely a bug that affects some users. I find it funny that Origin's Beta(and I hate the Origin TOS) works more stable than Steam. This would be ok if Steam wasn't being forced on us by multiple gaming companies who also pass the buck whenever it is the cause of an issue with their software. You can call it what you will but I am smart enough to see what they are doing.

Indeed. I've had Sync disabled (for Skyrim only; all my other Steam games with Cloud are enabled) since the day they enabled Cloud with Skyrim. It's still set to disabled, many moons later, and hasn't synced since.

None of my steam settings hold and it is updated on every prompt.

I would advise contacting Steam support, or at least giving their support articles a readthrough. There is clearly an issue with your Steam install, or how Steam is interacting with your system. Perhaps an antivirus or UAC throwing a snit fit. Forgetting Cloud and other settings (except the game updates issue; that's well known) is a bug and not common Steam behavior. Period.

Report it to Valve, then? If it doesn't hold for you, then it may be a bit of a bug. Cloud functionality is not new. It's been around for a while. New to Skyrim? Yes, but not to Steam.

Also, take the Steam complaints to the proper thread please. Personally, I have no problem with Steam while I despise Origin. However, this is not the place for such discussion.

It has been they are aware but unable to figure out why the issue occurs. I despise all DRM especially since none of it actually secures any software at all ever......not ever....not even on one game. Also in before fail Moderator tells us to take this issue to the steam forums yet Bethesda got my 60 bucks not steam.

Thoth -- have you checked your local settings and made sure the config files for Steam are not in a Read only folder ?? -- If it is then windows will not allow the changes you make to be written to your HDD and thus it would never get changed properly !

Yes I have, I modify all games ini to my preferences so this is nothing new to me. Steam lacks the capability of fixing bugs just like Bethesda does....either out of a lack of care or expertise...that I won't make a guess on. In before Mods tell us to take this to the steam forums....(passing the buck).

First of all, Steam is not an entity. It's a service. Valve runs it.

Second of all, it's not passing the buck. If it's a bug with the Cloud Sync option, then that's Valve's department and not Beth's. Therefore, it should go in their forum.

Third of all, insulting developers is not a good way to go at all.

Service svcks and is required. A service is often something optional....thus imo Steam is an requirement not a service it might as well be the Police.

If your game doesn't patch via the fail "service" you use correctly that is your fault since you collected the profit and tasked that company to do a part of your job.

Third, I will do unspeakable(on these forums) things to the developers of this game if ever they were to cross my path. Stop equating developer to God or King etc.

Point one, take your Steam complaints to the proper place. This is for support, not for needless ranting.

Point two, it's not their product. You expect them to fix a bug in something they have no control over? Good luck with that.

Point three, I'm not. As a programmer myself, I know it is no use at all to toss insults around. Hell, it serves no purpose in any profession. Insulting people doesn't do any good. At all. It makes people not want to help you when you don't show appreciation.

And the OP has been given their answer. I see no need to continue this pointless and needless ranting and other stuff in here.

I was pointing out a flaw in their "service" you were being a really devoted fan and denying it because you don't suffer from it. Your failure was searching the web for the reality before responding to my post because YOU don't have the aforementioned issue. Welcome to a world where you aren't the only person.

Uh, what? That makes no sense whatsoever.

Seriously, this thread has run its course.

Take it to the thread in community. This is not the place for ranting. Seriously, man.
