FPS Limiter

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 8:16 pm

Are you fullscreen?
Have you ever tried capping to 31? When using the mod I never had a single stutter or anything, and I have a good eye for it (Why i'm here eh). Maybe you should try that.
31 is smooth no matter what people say, massive fps only matters for example if your playing an online shooter and perfect reaction is needed, where about 130 fps is perfect.

This could also give your gpu a bit of extra resources to get that AO on.
I would rather ...In a week Update to the sixy new 580's in SLI I have my eye on...:) 3 GB cards FTW. Then I will have some fun...

If you want to cap at 31 FPS, then paste this Hex value into the FPS Limiter box in NVIDIA Inspector and hit apply, and bam your limited at 31 FPS. I've tested it and it works.

Hex Value: 0xF000001F

caution with that....you can blow a CAP. if you hear a HIGH pitched wine.......followed by a POP. that was a Capacitor....I think this is why the Game came with a forced FPS limit.

I am watching temps, always

Ok I fixed it, I went back to 290.53, but it turns out inspector was missing an xml file :(
Anyway, got 290.53 on, capped at 35, lovely and smooth, no weirdness so far and GPU chilling at 45% fan speed, lovely. Sweet.

Thanks daemon but I got it sorted now.

I have a question: I remember there being talk about patch 1.4 messing something up with framerate limiters before in the 1.4 beta forums. Does anybody know any more of this, or do I remember wrong?

The question I'm truly getting at which matters now is: can I use NVIDIA Inspector to limit FPS to 60 to remove the infamous stutter, without any other negative side-effects or etc?

Think that was in regards to DXtory

Might be the fourth time I said it, but I don't mind helping people. Get the latest beta drivers and the latest nvidia inspector. Instead of GLOBAL, hit the drop down box in the upper left and select Elderscrolls Skyrim. Find "framelimit" and set it to 60. Leave iPresentInterval set to 1 in Skyrim, or, set it to 0 and use Vsync in your nvidia control panel (or inspector).

Microstutter gone. No frametearing. I don't see any downside yet. I am so happy. I was absolutely obsessed with getting rid of the stutter. Really. I spent like 8 hours straight, and tested this one location about 60 times, changin every setting and every thing I could trying to squash it.

I was getting the nastiest microstutter -- it might have been bad enough to give someone a seisure in some places.

Skyrim should fix this in a patch, if there is no downside. I don't know if there is.

I just wanna peek in and say that I tried to set the NVIDIA Inspector framerate limiter to 60, but it didn't work (as in had no in-game effect on stutter). Only setting it to 59 fixed the stutter. Now smooth as butter when looking up the sky.

lol...we should start a thread.."Post a PIC of your Nvidia Inspector settings" i also have to set it to 59 because with 60 I still had stutter.

And just a note on the "Get latest Beta" for nvidia, that might not be advisable anymore...some have Issues with the newest Beta driver...295.51 Gives a Steam "error 51".

I am still using the 290.53 "Skyrim Edition" Nvidia driver. This was a case of ..If it NOW ain't Broke ..leave it be.

To any nvidia users who find 59 works better, if you wouldn't mind satisfying my curiosity: in your nvidia control panel, does it say your refresh rate is 60Hz or 59Hz?

In the Nvidia CP I have these choices....60 , 59 , 24 , 23 mine has always been set to my TV native Size and Hz.. 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz. 32 bit

Couldn't answer as to why , when I lock FPS to 60 I still see stutter. BUT with FPS locked to 59, and the monitor doing 60 (according to CP) it goes away and the Game is extremely smooth.

What about AMD user?
Use 'DXTory'. The FPS limiter option is under the 'Advanced' tab

I use the one in the beta nvidia drivers (which has been absolutely stable for me, so I'd recommend trying it, at least!) and have yet to suffer any side effects at all.

same here. At launch, I used DXtory, then I used the one at Skyrim Nexus. Both gave me tons of animation issues and my arrows wouldn't always leave the bow. Anyway, been using the FPS limiter in 290.53 NVidia beta drivers for a little over a month now. Now I have no more issues.

could this have anything to do with hdmi? i typically use DVI and with my 120 hz monitor it sets me at 120 hz. however if i use an HDMI cable nvidia control panel shows that it wants to put me in 59 hz for some reason, not 60.

With 1.4 patch I was having LOD issues when locking frames at 59 or 60 using dxtory. If anyone else gets those problems, the workaround is in the post in my sig. It explains how to fix micro stutter :)

you should add the information about the fps limiter accessible through inspector with the new beta drivers, as many have reported better performance with it.

FPS limiters saves my PC from Bethesda game's crazy FPS ranges.
I would also like to see that. Playing often on laptop, I'd rather have it limited to 30fps all the time to reduce the heat produced.

So far, the only solution I found is to limit the CPU throttling. At least on my laptop, the game is mainly GPU bound

Just to add something: if you're using a cap (like the nVidia one), you might want to have a look at Triple Buffering as well.

Don't use Nvidia inspector to limit your frame rate. It introduces stutter. Use the latest Evga Precision or latest MSI afterburner beta. These programs have the same (much better) FPS limiter than the one in Nvidia inspector. No stutter with them and they are much more reliable. Also i think they work with AMD graphics cards. Not sure. Test it and see.

I'm sure you know your stuff, but if you could provide some evidence for this claim, I'd love to see it! I've been using inspector and TB for quite a while now....

LOL. You want evidence. What evidence? I tried Nvidia inspector first. Limited framerate @30 in Skyrim and it had a lot of stuttering. Then i was on Remedy forum ( Alan Wake PC section) and someone posted there that EVGA precision and MSI afterburner have better FPS limiter that doesn't introduce so much stutter. So i downloaded them, tested them and it's true. Download, test and see for your self. Evidence? pih. What is this? some kind of a FPS limiter really devoted fan competition? If you're happy with NV inspector, then use it. I'm just giving you a better alternative. If you don't want it, i don't care.

Not sure about ATi cards, but for Nvidia, you could create a custom native resolution and set the hz at 59. This would provide a native FPS cap if you have Vsync turned on.

Is the MSI Afterburner FPS limiter in the beta version an aspect of the riva tuner addon or is it function simply in the afterburner gui? I prefer to leave the riva tuner part disabled.
