opted for the beta on steam, game wont load.

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 12:35 am

I have updated drivers, unistalled and reinstalled the game, updated windows, got rid of my only mod, read countless threads and tips and fixes. When I first got the beta (1.5?) The game quit as soon as I hit "play" so I got rid of the beta thing. Tried again...after a few tries I did everything I said above. Now the game loads, and plays but it's slow, tweaky, choppy and takes several minutes to load from startup to fast travel to entering and exiting doors. I have a 63 bit operating system (laptop) with 4GB RAM, AMD II dual core mobile M520 ( sorry, I dont know what any of this means if Im giving wrong info forgive me). The game used to play just fine. Perfectly. Now after the whole " I want cool kill scenes" fiasco the game is just...terrible.

Delete Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini from your Documents/My Games/Skyrim folder.

Each update makes minor changes to the ini files to support any changes included in the update. If you revert to an earlier version, these changes won't automatically revert. You should have backed up your ini files as well as your saves before opting in to the beta. If you didn't, you can try deleting your ini files (Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini) from \my documents\my games\skyrim and allow new ones to be created by the launcher.

Yes. You have "Show file extensions" turned off.

Yes delete, launch the game though steam, it'll default your settings, see if it fixes it :)

This helped to load the game very fast. Walking around, or moving at all is still choppy.

I have done everything I possibly can to try to fix this. It is not working. I am not quite sure what else I can do. Does anyone have similar problems? This is extremely frustrating.

The game launcher may be selecting "High" detail by default when it detects your video card. Change the options in the launcher to improve performance:
-disable antialiasing (FXAA should still be okay)
-ensure you are using the native resolution of your display or whatever resolution you were using before you tried the beta, whichever is lower
-try selecting lower levels of detail such as MEDIUM or LOW to see if it solves the problem

If you were using any tweaks in your video card driver's control panel, such as transparency antialiasing or ambient occlusion, be sure to turn them off. Once you return to the performance you experienced previously, then you can resume tweaking.

Disabled antialiasing. This worked. Thank you very much. I am not sure what FXAA or antialiasing do...but I see no difference in quality as far as prettiness goes. Now, I can walk and turn my head without serious lag. Thank you!
