(SPOILERS) Came across something super-cool...

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 2:42 pm

So I was on the way out west to do a random quest that has nothing to do with the MQ. I'm not very far along in the main quest line...just got the horn back, and I'm up to the point where I'm supposed to meet the dude about infiltrating the Embassy.

But anyway, what happened was this: off to a side of the road I happened to be running on, I saw a dragon. So I was like, cool, I'll go kill it. So I saved, stealthed off to the side, and the dragon was busy talking in dragonese to a pillar of cool effects -- turns out the dragon was (probably) Alduin, and he was raising another dragon right there, that as far as I could tell wasn't scripted. So I shot at Alduin, and he actually flew off before the dragon could get wholly resurrected. I ran up to the mound, and sure enough, there was a half-buried dragon there.

So, obviously, then I wanted to know what would happen if I let him complete his little resurrection ritual. So I reloaded the save and this time didn't shoot at Alduin, and lo and behold, the dragon was fully resurrected. But it's a named dragon -- Vuljotnaak. So now I'm wondering if something bad happens if I kill this dragon? Am I going to miss out on part of the MQ? Or does Alduin just fly around in the wild resurrected random named dragons? Cause if that's the case, holy crap that's cool.

I killed Vuljotnaak at the same point as you, so i reckon it may be scripted. That's disappointing because i thought it was something i got lucky with :(

Haven't noticed any negative consequences as of yet though.

I have killed a few named dragons, I think all of the ones you witness being resurrected have James and the other random encounters are nameless. I think Alden resurrects any dragons that are buried in dragon mounds that you are close to

Sorry for the necropost, but I dislike starting threads when the subject is already made, I stumbled across Alduin attempting to raise Vuljotnaak, my ebony arrows saw Alduin off smartly, Vuljotnaak's mound is still covered but the light aura is rising from it, Vuljotnaak is also speaking using the phrase "Speak if you have ought to say worth the listening"; I'll assume at this point it's a specific dragon shout that's needed, thought non that I have do anything.

I spent a good age messing around the burial mound with nothing happening so went on my merry way, on reaching Rorikstead I noted what I thought was another dragon in the general direction of Voljotnaaks mound, it turned out it was him and he was none too pleased to see me, I think him breathing fire on me kinda gave that away.

Anyway, of course the whole odd thing is him asking you to speak while he is still buried, anyone know anything about this, perhaps the companion dragon? though I suspect
Spoiler
Parthuurnak
for that role.

I found that dragon too but I wasn't when he was being resurrected instead it was attacking Rorikstead when I was playing I killed it so it means that is probably a random event.

Me too. I was passing along that road. There was no sign of Alduin so I was unprepared for what I saw.

Off in the distance was this aural tower of pretty lights spiralling into the sky. I go, "what the ... ?" and walk over there. Nothing. Just these lights rising into the sky and a slight hum. I then hang about for a bit to see what this is about. Sure it has to be a dragon resurrection as I am standing on a burial mound which turned out to be Vuljotnaak's. I hung about for about an hour, real time. Nothing. Maybe the game won't do what's planned until I am not actually looking. So I retreated about 50 metres and was looking around the area. I heard the dragon roar, turned and the party lights had stopped and a dragon was aloft. It didn't speak or anything but attacked like any self- respecting dragon does. Only as I gave it the coupe de gras did I realise it was my first named dragon, Vuljotnaak.

And yes, it was a cool experience.

Not random, I have a save before the event, every time I load the save the same thing happens, I also have a save with my character standing on the burial mound with nothing but pretty lights spiraling upward and a voice stating what I said in my earlier post.

It's happened again on another burial mound to the west of Rorikstead where as Vuljotnaak was to the south east, it seems if you can sneak close enough to hit Alduin with a bow(takes quite a few shots), he will leave the area before completing the ceremony, and again you get the voice from the mound saying "Speak if you have ought worth listening too", I've got Delphine and Esbern in my party and both have gone on alert looking at the mound while Annekka is behaving as though there is no danger, my own character does not even perceive danger(no red blip), this truly has me intrigued.

Up on the hill west of Rorikstead, it's not far, I'm processing a video at the moment to show what happens, will be a few minutes not counting youtube processing time.
