The worst part is that your left hand weapon doesn't appear on your character when sheathed.

Yes. Completely agree with this. I understand that they didn't do it because axes and maces are sheathed on the opposite side that swords are,
but if your character is dual-wielding two weapons of the same type, then I don't see any reason for the second weapon not to appear on the character.
