Anti-Aliasing on high resolution?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 3:15 am

I read somewhere on the net a while back, that the higher the resolution, the less need there is for AA.
I just want some clarification as to if there is any truth to that statement?

I personally run no AA, and I don't see jagged edges as often as I thought I might, so it "feels" that it hold some truth to it, but I was wondering what more experienced users had to say on the matter regarding Skryim specifically.

Thanks. :)

At 1080p I hardly notice them when things are moving, however when I take a screenshot they are still there and very ugly.
Personally I run with 2xMSAA just to take the edge off (hur hur) without making my old 5770 crap all over itself  In older games I may bump it up 8xMSAA just for that delicious look.

I guess that's why people spend more cash on graphics cards than I do; to completely get rid of jaggies while maintaining awesome framerates.
I also notice jaggies a lot more at lower resolutions, so whatever you heard is true.

Found a nice article on Toms Hardware http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/anti-aliasing-nvidia-geforce-amd-radeon,review-32166.html

It seems it's not as simple as I thought. Although as BounceDK said, the basic "theory" (lack of vocabulary tbh) is sound.

Thanks to that article I now understand the difference between SSAA and MSAA. :D I always did wonder.
