Is the fact that there's no cloud support Steam's fault?

I hate losing my character to some hard drive crash or virus and having to start over. Like the title says, is it steam that I should complain to about no cloud support for such a massive game like this? If i lose my data i'd like to have the choice to keep my character and all the work i've put into him.

There's an old-fashioned idea that if something is important to you, you ought to keep a backup copy. :)

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be unhelpful. It's just that the idea that it's somebody else's responsibility ("fault") to protect my personal data is strange to me. Your game, and your character, are located on your computer, not on Steam's server.

If you simply want to back up a saved game (assuming we're talking about PC here), it should be simply a matter of drag-and-drop from your "Documents\My Games\...whatever" directory to your SD card (or thumb drive, external HD, etc.)

Yeah i wasnt saying its anyone's responsibility. The point is this is a huge game and would've benefited from a cloud system. I was just wondering who authorizes that. Most likely steam since it would be their servers. but thank you for the info on where the character data is.

It's hard to say. The cloud would be on Steam's servers, but support would require modification of the game files, which generally means authorization from the company that owns the game. In fact, since bandwidth and servers cost money, I would guess that cloud service is something the game publisher can choose to buy as part of their contract agreement.
