Dragon Shouts (gotta get em all!)

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 12:45 am

I just finished getting the final word of dragon shouts, I mean I have every word of every shout.

Which shouts do you use the most?
Which ones do you occassionally use to good effect?

which ones seem useless?

I tried the call storm thing and it seemed to do nothing at all but make it rain. bummer.

I haven't gotten many, but oddly enough I use the 'clear skies' more than anything else! haha. I like having nice scenery to look at. I remember thinking it was useless when I got it.

I use the fire breath to good effect on annoyance creatures I am too bored to kill.

I use dragonrend to get the dragons on the dang ground.

I use kyne's peace to get rid of animals that are attacking me when I am not in mood for a fight.

I like unrelenting force in this scenario: I am sneaking, it fails, dagger suddenly not weapon of choice. use unrelenting force, draw bow, attack.

don't use many shouts.

I'm playing an assassin/necromancer now, but I usually forget about shouts in the middle of battle :sadvaultboy: I really only use them if I can't defeat enemies in the old-fashioned-arrow-through-the-face way, so Unrelenting Force is a good one, as is Ice Form as the poor man's paralysis.

Whirlwind Sprint is good for escaping. But my favourite is Throw Voice. Lure bndit chiefs into a good position, then turn them into a pincushion while a zombie cave bear tanks them.

I use aura whisper, throw voice and ice form a lot, and unrelenting force whenever I can shout anyone off a ledge.

Ice form is my favorite, stall enemies when you get overwhelmed. Or if you're on a slanted surface you can watch your foes roll down the mountain side.

-Ice Form when I want to pick off the little helpers of a boss
-Storm Call when it fits the scenery of a battle
-Abusing Whirlwind Sprint to be faster
-Become Ethereal when I'm too lazy look for a good path to get down a mountain
-Aura Whisper on an assassin is absolutely great, especially at lower levels

And my most favorite shout of all time:

-Slow Time, hands down. At lvl 3 it makes me slaughter a battalion of bandits/draugr/whatever before the first ones that fall to my blade even touch the ground. Or I can dance around the dragon / dwarven centurion / whatever boss and hit him in the back all the time. I simply love it.

In no particular order, the shouts I use the most are:

Clear Skies
Kyne's Peace
Slow Time
Disarm
Become Ethereal

The other ones have their uses too, but with my current character the ones I listed are the most helpful. I love Clear Skies for the same reason BarnabyJones does, I just like to have nice weather. :) I use it especially a lot at the College of Winterhold and in Riften. Just about all night every night, the northern lights are out in force at the College, but you can't see them because it's always snowy. And the constant fog that shrouds Riften is depressing. It's a much more cheerful city when the sun is out. :)

I use Kyne's Peace a lot because, at level 55, with all of my combat skills maxed, there's just no reason to engage in combat with every single bear, wolf, saber cat etc. So as soon as I see them, I just shout at them and suddenly they turn into nice little teddy bears.

Since I'm a mage, slow time has less of a good effect for me in a combat way, since once my magicka is gone, it's gone, and with Impact there's no real benefit to using the shout for combat purposes. I use that shout to get OUT of combat that I don't want to be in, lol.

Fully charged Disarm is just great. No longer need to fear those bandit chiefs or draugrs death overlords without their weapons! :D

Become Ethereal is good for many things. I use it most often for travel purposes. Instead of taking the long way down a mountain, I just become ethereal and jump off. Whoopee! It's also nice for getting out of combat, too.

I've been having a lot of fun with "Throw Voice" to distract the MOBs to get them facing the other way, while I then sneak up and clobber 'em :-).

Become Ethereal is also good for a mage if you want to get a long-casting spell (like http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Mayhem) off when mobs are pounding on you and keep interrupting..

I absolutely adore how the last shout I got was this one. The epitome of dragon shouting, is saying things like "Hey Skeeverbutt" to monsters and mobs. It's awesome.

I was a big fan of slow time until I got started using Elemental Fury.

I also like ...

Does it work on fists?

Also, it would be good if it actually worked on enchanted weapons.

OT:
Mine favorite shouts:
- Slow Time (and by far my favorite shout of them all).
- Unrelenting Force.
- Aura Whisper.

Other shouts which I kinda find cool:
- Become Eternal.
- Whirlwind Sprint.
- Throw Voice.

I also meditate on Fus (Force Without Effort).

Not really interested in other shouts.
Not that they are bad, but they are simply not my cup of tea.

Edit:
It would be cool if there were more words of power you can meditate on.
I think that making Slow time not slow you at all would be a great bonus, or making Storm Call not harm your allies.

Aura whisper is the one I use the most, then marked for dead, or unrelenting force.

I have found that Storm Call at 2nd and 3rd level is very useful when the odds are stacked against me (ie crowd control) the lightning strikes associated with this shout cause a lot of damage often killing enemies in 2 strikes.
