The WH college situation...

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 9:39 am

So, I did the Winterhold college quest with a few characters, both stormcloack and imperials...

Apart from being small and crazy, I noticed something.... the college is doomed O_O

Think about it, you killed a Thalmor, and before this, he almost destroyed the Winterhold village.

If the Stormcloack Jarl was still there, he would sure use the attack as the chance to take down the college.
The Imperial Jarl is friendly toward the College, however, he can do nothing if the Thalmor try something in the college...
And the guy that you found on the Dwemer ruin, he said he was going to report you to the Imperial City.

I really think that the WH college questline should have been longer... because it had no answer at all, and created even more questions...

And what do you guys think?

Actually, it don't matter. Killing he or not don't seem to change anything. What is odd, if you think in what he was going to do and the consequences

He wouldn't get much out of it, he has no proof that it's really the collge's doing, so he won't get much support. And by the time you go back the eye is alredy destroyed.

I had two saves around that time in case I needed to go back before I killed him. It just seemed at the time, in a role-playing fashion, that I should smite him before he had a chance to attempt to take down the College. I will go on with my game tonight when I get home and start Labrynthian and not look back.

Thanks.

Well, the College is Doomed anyhow. . . Any faction the PC can be head of is doomed. I mean, think about it. . . none of the factions which you can actually become head of from Morrowind or Oblivion survived (well, ok the thieves' guild survives, but I suppose that is because there will always be thieves, and they don't need much of a leader, and anyhow, some theif will always step up to try to fill the vaccuum; Dark Brotherhood also survives, but one could argue that's because of the influance of the Night Mother, which is its true leader). I think the problem is that the Player Character is a terrible, terrible, terrible leader, even if he/she is a fantastic errand boy. In none of the games, does your character ever provide any leadership once attaining the title of head of the guild. . . you become the head, then that's it - you cannot provide any leadership.

Unless you just stop playing the game at that point, in general, the PC will go off and completely forget about the faction, and go work on other quests and problems, leaving the guild to it's fate, leaderless.

Big surprise that the factions fall apart after that.

The questline is stupid. It ends with the psijics tking the eye, only they could have done that when it was discovered, but nope.

Yeah, every aspect of the College's storyline was too short and left us with no answers. What about the Synod? We never heard back from them. Even with the Eye being gone, the College still retrieved the Staff of Magnus, which the Synod had been looking for as well. I was genuinely surprised that we never heard anything back from them.

However, I get the feeling that even if the Thalmor found out about Ancano's death, they might not care so much as he seemed kind of a wild card. Like he'd gone crazy at the end. And besides that one incident, the College seems politically neutral, isolated and exclusionary. No threat to the Thalmor, really.

Your decision - except that EVERYONE in the world already seems to know every last thing that you've done, even if you left no witnesses.

And I just have that staff in a chest in my house that's mostly unprotected accept for the house lady that came along with it. If they wanted it, I'm never home, they could come take it!

They're welcome to it. It totally svcks as a staff. Ever actually tried using it in combat against an NPC mage? It doesn't seem to do anything. I mean, a 20 point/sec drain against enemies that have 300-400 magicka and regen quite fast, isn't exactly a powerful artifact.
