AMD ATI Drivers 12.3 - Bug

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 2:26 am

Hi.

I just downloaded AMD's CCC 12.3 drivers, and the graphics became bugged.
There are big black "pixels" (too big to be pixels) that floats around here and there. -Especially around fires, but also in other places.
What can I do to fix this?

Thanks.

Turn you A/A off on the game. "Fixes" the problem immediately

12.3 isn't out yet, only as preview drivers. 12.2 has a confirmed bug that corrupts various graphics in Skyrim if you have AA enabled, so disable AA via the launcher or roll back to a previous driver such as 12.1.

Thanks.
Disabling AA works, but I would rather have AA enabled and not see all the strange "pixels".

You can use ATI AA instead of Skyrim. Go to your ATI properties, selecting gaming, uncheck 'use application settings' and manually force AA to whatever you like. Make sure it's still 'disabled' in the Skyrim launcher.

This worked for me - 12.3 drivers on ATI 5750 OC @ 1080p/2xAA 8xAF - everything maxed except for shadows (set to high). FPS in mid 40s

If you can use ATI AA that is - forcing ATI AA/AF through CCC as you describe has never worked for my HD6970 - I've always had to use in-game AA/AF, no matter which version of Skyrim or CCC.

I use ATI R5850 HD 2gb VaporX (Sapphire) and AMD Vision Engine Control Centre with Catalyst v12.3 that was updated on 16 march 2012 (to 12.3) via 'check for updates now...'!

As others have noted, Switch of AA an AF in Skyrim and set them both to desired point in CCC/ECC (do not use application settings) and this should take care of the pixelation issue until it is fixed by AMD/ATI.

The issue is known by AMD/ATI and is due for fix in next driver update. Sorry I not got the link to hand - but issue is in driver notes! :)

Curious that I have v12.3 via ECC and did not specifically dl it as a beta or such!
