Am I the only one with this problem?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 4:06 am

Since my copy of Skyrim has started to crash like every one elses, taking me to a black screen and making my keyboard and mouse unresponsive etc... it would seem that even when Im not playing the game my pc has started to do this?

My computer was perfectly fine before, and since I've been having this issue with the game, even when Im not playing it my pc randomly crashes to a black screen!

Is any one else out their having this problem or is it only when playing the game?

maybe heat problems? hardware got stressed to much with the game, now its finally too much for it.... you could try to get the dust out of your system and try playing with the case open to see if it still happens.

No I dont think its heat issues as my computer would have done this long ago if this was the case as their are other games I have that are more demanding than Skyrim that I play to max settings.

Allthough I defonatly will try getting the dust out of my system and play the game with the case off regardless as I'll try anything at this point, however I know Im not the only one with http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/456889-skyrim-complete-pc-crashes/
I just dont know whether or not this has made their computer do this outside of the game as well?

A black screen. Is it a display driver crash? Should give you a notification int he toolbars saying 'display driver stopped responding and has recovered'. I also had a stable system and then after playing DXHR started having display driver crashes even out of game. What's weird though is that though all of the troubleshooting I did when I ran a partial CCleaner it didn't fix it..but when I ran CCleaner with Firefox included the display driver crashes stopped.

If you're having display driver crashes I'd suggest doing a full CCleaner. Your tabs in browsers will be gone, cookies too, some other temporary files will be absent, such as the preparation files for WLMM. Hell, even if you're not having a display driver crash, you should probably run CCleaner. Run it every few months or so.

I dont think it is a driver crash as I have the latest drivers, but it doesnt tell me either as when the screen goes black it doesnt go back to my desktop, it either just stays that way and I have to do a force shut down or sometimes after a while it will restart on its own.

Still, doesnt hurt to do a CClean I guess, though I doubt this will fix the problem.

Just a thought: run a memory test on your ram (like memtest) A full system check or benchmark could be even more informative.

http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/ <-- you pass this test your GPU is probably fine

http://majorgeeks.com/IntelBurnTest_d5987.html <-- stresses everything else, requires Intel CPU, may kill your computer if it's already on the point of breaking

From what I understand newer versions of Firefox support hardware acceleration with video cards. I've seen my GPU temps and fan speeds rise while using Firefox.

Do you know if these are safe to test on a laptop, or will it... you know, melt?

Doesn't happen to me, I've owned the game from day one and never had it crash, but thanks for including me in that anyways.

If you are not playing the game and it is crashing, it is not the gaming causing the problem. I know this is hard to phantom but if I buy gas from gas station a and then my car overheats, then I buy gas from a different gas station, lets call it station b, and it still over heats, clearly its not the gas stations fault is it?

If your computer is crashing a lot, clearly something is wrong with it and I would get it checked out if you are unable to do it yourself. Could be a power supply problem, could be over heating, could be LOTS of things. I highly doubt, and would even bet money on it, it has nothing to do with Skyrim. Computers are like cars, you have to take care of them, dust them out and make sure they are well maintained, if you don't they WILL break down over time.
