Ambient Occlusion broken with 680 GTX and 301.10

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 5:57 am

Just upgraded with a clean driver install.

When I enabled either quality or performance AO the effects do not show up in game any more. With my previous 580 GTX and 296.10 drivers it worked fine.

I am getting the performance hit for choosing Quality so I know it is "on" but there is no visual effect in the game any more with either quality or performance. I have also tried different profiles using nvidiaInspector but still nothing works.

Any help?

No help, it's a know bug in the 1.5 version. Not everybody is effected by it but it's a known bug (was already known in the beta version but still they released it :( )

Really? I didn't know. Man, I thought it was fine with my 580 GTX and 296.10 drivers but maybe I didn't notice that it was gone until now since 1.5 is still new? I did a super clean instal of the 680 and latest drivers and then it's gone. That svcks, I hope there is a fix. Thanks for the info.

As I said in the other AO thread, in my game at least, it seems to be working inside buildings, but not in the exteriors or main world. At the very least it has removed the AO from under the grass in the exteriors, which I suppose could be a bug introduced when they introduced shadows on the grass.

Not sure if my experience is typical, would be nice if someone verified whether they're seeing it in the interiors or not. The interior AO actually looks different to me now, so I wonder if they implemented the AO in the Game Jam video for the interiors.

Ok, did a test on a 580 GTX and 296.10 driver system and yep 1.5 broke outdoor AO, especially noticeable on under grass. Whew... at least it's not the shiny new 680GTX!

Oh yeah, totally indulged and overnighted myself a EVGA 680. In one test area I seriously gained over 20fps. One of the only places Skyrim would dip down into the low 30's is now sitting in the high 50's, around 58fps. So, yeah I'm impressed.

That is with same settings as my 580, now to up the settings and see how far I can push this thing.

I so hate it when people come on and brag about stuff. It wasn't just a problem you were posting about. You made it clear you have a 680. Big woop. I'll be getting one to. Just waiting till the manufactors such as Asus release their own versions of the 680, not just the standard Nvidia 680.

Didn't you just come on here to brag about how you are also getting a 680? Circular logic.

Sorry I didn't mean to sound braggy, I really at first thought the new 301 drivers had an issue. Then meegja asked about the card and I let my "geek" excitement get the better of me, I admit.

Didnt see any bragging, his card is important when complaining about a broken graphical feature? In any case, congrats on new card, personally I'm waiting till they work out some kinks since I hate new new hardware, but it is tempting. You don't happen to play arma2 do you? I'd love to see the numbers for the 680 on it, Arma3 is my only real reason to upgrade, considering arma2 is the only game I can't max out. Mmm, grass.
