For those that have "beaten" the Main quest

Alduin eats the souls of the dead. If Ulfric died than the war would end and there would be less souls to eat.

this. I'm pretty sure someone in game talks about how Alduin is feeding off the fresh souls from the war so he wants it to continue.

Lookdown exactly where is that Time anomaly, in the throat of the world . Helgen is the first thing you will see.
Probably, Alduin attacked it because it was the first thing he saw in the time shift

Very good and interesting point. I'll have to go back and look now.

That's a really good point. The time shift probably booted him off of the mountain and he appeared right below it at Helgan, wondering where the hell he was, OH LOOK TIME TO ROAST SOME PEOPLE POPCORN.

I think he just wanted a good seat and enjoy the head chopping...everyone just freaked out, stopped the show and ran away...of course he'd be pissed off.

Given that the BGS bring up this issue themselves in notes in the Thalmor embassy and that Thalmor content is painfully thin on the ground I'd predict that this is going to be answered in DLC dealing with the Thalmor threat and the greater forces at work behind the MQ.

Why does everything have to be for a reason? Maybe Alduin's cat peed in his cereal that morning. Maybe he got passed over for a promotion at Dragons Inc. Jeez. Everything has to have a Big Secret Meaning, apparently

Yes, it actually does. That's kinda how Nirn works, very little is left to chance or coincidence.

Wow, OP, you totally have me picturing Alduin wearing Darth Vader's helmet and dragon shouting "I AM YOUR FATHER" at the main character.
