Spell Absorption

I was wondering what's the highest amount of Spell Absorption that can be reached (Without using the Breton's Dragonskin Racial Ability).

There are only a couple sources of Magic Absorption:

The Atronach Stone: 50% - South of Windhelm
Alteration Tree: 30% - Atronach perk
Breton: 50% - 60 second racial ability

I think 80%. Atronach standing stone gives 50% and a Alteration perk gives a further 30%. You maybe able to get further, but I think it's capped at 85% for both Magic resistance and Spell Absorpsion.

There's no hard cap. A soft cap exists simply because there are only three sources of Magic Absorption. For non-Bretons, that cap is 80% (Atronach stone + perk). Breton's with the Atronach stone can temporarily hit 100% with Dragonskin.

I'd rather not use spell absorbtion as it's kinda bugged right now.
Many of your own spells, mostly of the conjuration school afaik, are blocked by it because the game considers them as hostile.
I hope a patch will fix this...

Magicka Absoption is "also all or nothing"; so if you're playing on a difficulty where Magic Resistance is necessary for survival, Absorption isn't a viable alternative to Resist Magicka unless you're OK with huge unpredictable spikes of incoming damage.

This. That's what I knew but I just wanted to confirm with others.

I was aware of the Conjuration spells being absorbed but summons was not something I was dabbling in. Unfortunately, it also absorbs the Quick Reflexes perk from the Blocking tree, something I was not aware of until I did some extensive testing and narrowed it down to Spell Absorption.

The way I see it as is that Spell Absorption is another layer of protection. It's definitely very viable in my opinion.

I'd like to add that it doesn't appear to work against dragon breath, but I'm damn near invulnerable to spells now.

I have not started the main quest so I can't comment on that. Everything seems to indicate that it would because it seems to absorb Dragon Shouts (Like from Ulfric, for example).

No doubt, but I'd definitely make it a lower priority than capping Magic Resistance at 85%.

I tested it out on a Skeletal Dragon (Not sure how much different a normal Dragon's Breath is) and I was able to absorb it. However, for some odd reason it doesn't actually replenish your magicka, it just negates the damage.
