Why is it with every patch Beth breaks more than the fix.

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:07 am

First these AO problems. Artifacts everywhere. CTD's. Seriously. Why do they do this to us EVERY patch. Not only that Steam forces the update every god dam time. Turning it off does nothing.

Check the game with no mods and fresh INIs. I played a straight 10-hour session with 1.5, not a single CTD.

This man. Plus AO is done at driver level and is not supported by Beth, so wait for a new Nvidia driver or a community fix.

I don't have any issues either and played about 6 hours yesterday. Not one crash. Have you stopped to think for a second it could just be your system/save games/mods?

It's almost impossible for them to test for every setup imaginable.

I have to somewhat agree with the OP. My game isn't broken, I have no problems actually running it, and I have no crashes so far since the patch. However, the graphic fidelity of the game has certainly decreased - mainly due to lack of AO (or using a worse looking implementation through a non-Skyrim profile) and other things just making the shadows look much more odd than they did before.

Not to rub salt into the wound, but I played 4 hours, with out a hitch, last night without even realizing that Skyrim had updated! This was after installing the Unofficial Skyrim Patch and the Imaginator Mod (on top of the dozen or so mods I'm already running) prior to game play. I think this just illustrates how difficult and varied everyone's installations are. Is it any wonder that Bethesda is struggling with these updates?

The only problem I've had so far is that Steam downloaded the patch while I was playing the game, and then forced the game to quit so it could install the patch. Really? You couldn't wait for me to finish this play session?

Gstaff collected dxdiag info on the AO issue during the beta, so they will likely fix it for a future release. I hardly think this is something that should have delayed the release of 1.5, so I don't see a foul here.

This game is running better than ever for me. Only a few mods installed. Tweaked a few settings to get better performance, since my GPU is only a 6670, and this thing is running like a champ. No CTD's for me with 1.5.

It's actually nice to see some positive, non-complaining gamers in this thread. No offense to the people with CTD and pixel problems, but all the negativity recently is getting ridiculous.

I just installed Skyrim after getting a new harddrive and putting the OS on it. Now I can't even create a new character, the carriage in the intro scene starts to barrel roll and the horse flies everywhere and takes damage. I have reinstalled Skyrim, rereinstalled skyrim, reinstalled all my drivers. I have done everything short of reinstalling the OS again, but I highly doubt that will fix anything.

the USP (Unofficial Skyrim Patch) esp was causing my Skyrim game to crash to desktop when trying to load my current save game files in the game so then I un-ticked it and then my saves loaded up and started perfectly and then let me into the Skyrim game smoothly, hmmm!

the USP (Unofficial Skyrim Patch)

The authors of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch have chosen to use USKP to refer to this http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1359350-beta-unofficial-skyrim-patch-thread-3/.

This is most likely due to vsync being disabled or the refresh rate not being capped at 60. Skyrim's havok physics go out the window when these settings are altered.

No it's not a joke. I figured Vsync would only cap my FPS at a sustainable level, I never thought it could actually [censored] the game up >.<

I did a complete reinstall of the game after 1.5 and now I have not experienced any CTD's.
Using 70 mods ATM.

The only problems right now is the big drop in FPS due to Skyboost not working/ out yet.

Skyboost hasn't been necessary since 1.3.10. Any increase it provides now is going to be marginal at best. And the most likely source of crashes is going to be the fact that you're using so many mods. Either wait for your mods to be updated before moving from 1.4.27 to 1.5.24 or disable the mods. The game is being fixed by incremental updates and the more mods you use, the more likely this will happen.

Have to say: the patches till the latest 1.4 version were all improvements for me. Sometimes small, sometimes big improvements.
The 1.5 patch is for me the first that breaks the game in an bad way. Still playable but bugged, even after a completely clean install without any mods or whatever.
