Esbern Potion

Why. Is. This. Not. Fixed. Yet.

It's an extremely important quest that concludes the last of the blades quests, and you guys just DON'T FIX IT. Everyone's complained about it. It's on pretty much every forumn where this game is talked about. It's on all the TES and Skyrim wiki's. You CAN'T not know about this bug, everyone else and their mothers know about it, so ignorance isn't an excuse. You guys straight up refuse to fix it, and it's ridiculous. You get this far into the game, over 200 hours in for me, and then you run into this?

I've had so many game breaking bugs in this game it's completely ruined my final impression of it. I mean what the hell, you guys have the time to do a [censored] gamejam and work on a dozen or so VERY complex mods, but you don't fix these critical bugs? I straight up just don't even feel like playing the game anymore. I get to the final quests of what happens to be my favorite faction and bam, broken? That's it? Patch after patch and you guys just don't fix it? It's coming to 6 months now, and this crap is STILL BROKEN?

Abysmal. FO3, NV, and Oblivion were the same [censored] thing. I try to be patient and wait, I try to look at the bright side (which are mods, which usually fix the things you guys are too lazy to), but what the hell...I PAID for a finished product. The amount of bugs that drove me to use console commands, reload previus saves or screw with gamefiles is mind boggling. Last game I ever buy from you people.

You can just use the console to both complete the quest and gain the Dragon Infusion perk. Detailed here so you can just pick whichever depending where you are on the quest -> http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dragon_Research#Bugs

No. That's not acceptable.

1) It doesn't actually complete the quest. The quest remains in your quest log and you can't ever complete it, which means if there are quests that require it's completion in order to proceed they won't work.
2) I shouldn't have to use console for a [censored] thing in this game. I'm not a debugger. I'm not developer. I just want to play a game that doesn't have something broken every 10 hours.

Thanks for trying to help, please don't think I'm aiming my aggression at you. I've just had it with how lazy this company is and their audacity of selling $60 half baked games. There are many other AAA RPG's where I could have spent those $60 (most likely LESS), games that are much older and outdated than this one in fact, that are WAY more stable. I think that's exactly what I'm going to do from now on.

This was actually working until the 1.3.10 update. It has since remained broken. It is fixed by the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1362032-beta-unofficial-skyrim-patch-thread-4/, however. Why not give that a try since it fixes about a hundred other things that BGS hasn't gotten to yet?

Nah I understand your frustrations, and I didn't realize until giving it another glance that there is no setstage command to finish the quest. That would drive me up the wall, too. ><

See, having to hunt down "fixes" made by random people on the internet is just lame. Having to alter game files with anything other than official patches is always risky, and can be underminded at any time by official updates which can cause even more problems. It may not even really fix the problem, but instead brute force a work around that the game doesnt actually acknowledge as legit progression. You can never tell in unofficial patches. For all we know the person who made the patch could have just added the perk by a console command batch file and manually deleted the quest text. That's not the same as actually fixing the quest.

The fact that an unofficial patch even exists right now is terrible. This is one of the best selling games in years, developed by a big name company with a huge staff and big funds, and it hasn't even been a year since the games release. Why aren't they just fixing this [censored]? Too busy counting their money? Too busy adding more hair follicles on poeples toes in another game jam?

It seems that you are unwilling to accept the solutions that have been offered and are determined to express your negative impression of the game. Also, I wouldn't characterize someone who has produced unofficial patches for several of Bethesda's games as a "random person on the internet." Kivan's work is well-known and respected, and while I too would prefer an "official" fix to the problem, there isn't one that exists right now. Do you want to solve the issue you've posted about or do you simply want to rant? Ranting threads all seem to meet the same fate on this forum...

If you're unhappy with the support that Skyrim has received thus far, I would suggest you send a personal message to the Sr. Community Manager (Gstaff).

Please try to understand that I shouldn't have to download ANYTHING that isn't directly from Bethesda in order to play a non-broken game. Yes, to me this guy is indeed a random person on the internet. I don't know him personally. That's great he's respected, but he's still a 3rd party that has nothing to do with the poeple making the game. I don't want anything from a 3rd party, last time I downloaded a mod that was supposedly from a "respectable" source it ended up giving my character permanent bonuses that I now can't get rid of no matter what I do. I didn't pay him for this game, I paid Bethesda, and I paid them expecting a working product that I have yet to receive almost 6 months later. Is that too much to ask for? I mean hell, what about the people that baught the game on console? There's no unofficial patch for them. They just have to sit there and wait for the promised day. Call it a rant if you want, but that's a diservice. I think these are some pretty legitimate complaints, and I don't think I'm being unreasonable. This isn't the first time, or the last, that a Beth game has recieved piss poor service after launch. I think it's about time they start to listen to the music...And If not, then I'll just be done with Beth altogether.

I've had the same issue with the Esbern Potion quest. What's even better, is I was able to get the quest without having to side with The Blades. Apparently going to one of the Word Walls (where there is a Dragon Priest) starts the quest, even if you haven't done Paarthurnax's quest for The Blades. So I thought to myself, "Neat! I can get the Dragon Infusion perk without having to work with The Blades!". Wrong. Even though I gave Esbern 1 Dragon Bone and 1 Dragon Scale, the quest does not remove itself from the Active quests. It just sits there! (At least with the 1.2/1.3 patch it counted itself as a cleared mission). Not to mention...when I drank the potion that is supposed to give you Dragon Infusion (permanent perk), it never gave me it.

The worst part is that you can't repeat the quest, ever. It's a one time deal. So if you drink Esbern's Potion and didn't save beforehand, I don't think you'll ever get the perk,
even if Bethesda fixes this bug in an upcoming patch. Luckily, I saved before consuming the potion and now I have it stored away safely in Proudspire Manor...waiting for
Bethesda to fix it.
