Trouble with seeing under water

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 1:19 pm

Today I started up a file I haven't played in a few weeks. When I try to swim underwater at night everything goes black. When I tried during the day I couldn't see either, only it was a murky brown. I literally cannot see anything. I haven't played Skyrim in a few weeks and this isn't a new file. Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Commonly reported, I believe.

Try updating your drivers for your video card.

And disable any mods that touch water, if you've got any.

If its a problem with the technical side of my computer, can't I just adjust the game in some way (moving it to a lower level perhaps) so that it will show underwater areas better?

I'm sorry but I'm not the best in the area of computers what I'm trying to ask is if there is anything simpler to do then messing with my video card. had some bad experiences when trying to work my computer myself. So I'm sorry, but can you please use layman's terms to describe the first reply? Or more likely, is this just me being stupid and not realizing that all I have to do is change object fade distance on Skyrim a notch

It's a driver.

If you have a Nvidia card: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/indexsg.aspx?lang=en-us
AMD: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

It works like any software installation.

I am still having an issue with this, which does not happen when I remove my ENB settings completely, but I was running them flawlessly prior to the latest bug update... I mean patches. Why would it work prior to the update and not after.
@Deaths_soul, you mention it is commonly reported. Is there anything official or mor comprihensive you have found that you could link to?
It just seems bogus that my GF with the same video card, same mods, same settings and same games has no water issues on her PC, but I do. And the suggestion of no using ENB is not suffecient as I find Vanilla lighting unplayible. I have updated drivers, that has not resolved anything.

It has been reported several times in the PC and beta forums that 1.5.24 causes problems with underwater visibility for anyone using ENB or Depth of Field mods. This is not a bug in the update. The 1.5 update changed how water transitions appear in the game, so it's natural that any mods that render this will need to be updated to be compatible. It is the responsibility of the mod author to keep their mod up to date with the game - not the other way around.

The primary reason that you may need to update your video drivers as well as make sure you're not using outdated versions of these mods is that BGS developed and tested 1.5 with the latest video drivers available. In the case of shadows on grass, for example, updating to the latest video drivers solved the problems many people were having with the shadows not rendering correctly.

Are you trying to determine what video hardware you have?
If you run 'dxdiag' from the run line it should tell you what your video card is under the Display tab. You can then download the latest drivers from one of the links provided by deaths_soul. You must upgrade your drivers to the latest versions if you are experiencing graphical problems with the latest update. It is not a matter of changing you configuration since the update was developed for and test on the latest available video card drivers.

If you still need help, post the log created by dxdiag (click the 'save all inromation' button and it will save it as a txt file), but please do so by using spoiler tags.
