Let's say that there was a Console Gamer who wished to broaden his horizons by breaking back into PC Gaming.

The thing is, this particular Gamer has been away from PC Gaming for so long that he doesn't know what is powerful, moderate, or weak in choosing parts for a rig.

What would you guys suggest in order to get the most out of Skyim for this Gamer who is wanting to augment his gaming by reintroducing himself to the PC Gaming world?

The thing with PC gaming is.......how much you want to spend.....

FPS /Fluid game play is directly tied to how much you spend....

I bought parts over years , upgrade when necessary...some parts I have had running Oblivion for 4 years...you did mention RIG...lol they cost.

A computer is cheap....A RIG is gonna set ya back. You can put together a computer for under $400,( but wont Game for crap)

My Power supply cost me $299.99 ....thats was just the PS.


Let everyone know a few things......How much do you want to spend, can you build it yourself, Do you want a prebuilt System.??

Video card with 2 GB RAM and a MIN 256 bit buss (384-bit better)

Maybe this will help in some way. My rig gets me constant 60fps, at 1920x1080, Ultra preset with Medium shadows, High resolution textures, Water and LOD texture mods. It cost around ￡800-￡900 including the monitor. Built it myself.

I am upgrading my GPU this week though.

If you have a budget I can make a mock up on newegg for you, generally I'd say around $1000 us will put you in a pretty good place, depends on what you want out of your gpu, when I built mine it was around that number but I saved money by only going with a 560 until the 680s came out. Obviously you can go cheaper, but as mentioned above, you really do get what you spend out of a computer.

I have an AMD Athlon II Quad Core 630, 6gigs DDR 3 Ram, the Sapphire Radeon 6870 1gig and I run everything on ultra and it seems really smooth. Am I missing something or am I reading you wrong?

As far as the people who were interested in my budget, I have around $1800 USD to spend on parts and such.

What you need to do is spend money on the stuff that matters that can't be upgraded as easily as others.

So buy a good psu, maybe 850 or 1000w, Corsair brand I'd recommend. That way you have room to expand.

Go for an i7 2600k CPU, with a good CPU cooler.

Get a decent case, I'd say full size not midi.

And get a good HDD, maybe a 1 or 2 tb western digital cavier black 64mb cache. (maybe even a little 60gb SSD for your OS).

GPU, go for a gtx 570 or higher if you can afford it. Won't have to upgrade for a while.

Nice 1080p monitor, LED like mine will do nice

Edit: I have no idea how much stuff costs in the US, so bare that in mind with my recommendations

...hell thats way plenty! make sure the quad core you get isnt like 2.2 ghz. get something more up there 3.5 or so. then oc that bad boy.

Skyrim specifically benefits more from CPU speed than high Powered Graphics cards. A good OC'd CPU with a moderate 3d Card will have better performance than a moderate CPU and Beast of a 3D card
